Half is right. 50-50. Two legendary seasons, two fucking embarrassments where we didn't even challenge. You can’t give him credit for the good but still give him a free pass for the bad. Though the usual suspects will be along in a minute calling him a ‘visionary’
If we can’t credit the good without criticising the bad, isn’t that just the “cynical” fan syndrome?

We paid £21m for Torres and value Garcia similarly due to their similar profile. Not sure how £6m short of our valuation is ‘very acceptable’ or I’m sure Valencia would have accepted £15m for Torres.

The difference being if we didn't pay that for Torres, a host of other clubs would.

Garcia has made it widly known that he's only joining Barca, so the selling price is dictating by what they're willing to pay, otherwise we would get nothing for him.

(Facepalm)

You're just being a WUM now.

It's not £15m though is it, it's €10m plus hypothetical add ons, potentially ridiculous ones like "if he wins the European Cup in the next 3 seasons" and "if he plays 500 games".

If you ran a business you'd be bankrupt.

We would have accepted €10m + €10m in add ons, as has been widely reported.

Because we weren't willing to negotiate a difference of €2m, we're now going to get nothing.

If we're talking from a sensible business perspective, City haven't done the sensible thing.

Torres wanted City like Garcia wants Barca - do you really think £21m was an impossible financial outlay for other clubs? United have just spent a potential £41m on an 18 year old I’ve never heard of.

We wanted Torres, he wanted us, we paid the asking price or negotiated to an acceptable level. Barca didn’t do the same. Not sure what’s wrong about it.

Great counter argument mate.

Kid you haven't even engaged with the substance of what I've said in several posts. You've also demonstrated your total ignorance of negotiating strategy. I've tried to be respectful and explain but you're clearly not looking to learn anything. Namaste to you.

Torres wanted City, but if City said "we're not paying £21m" I very much doubt Torres was as wedded to joining the club as a Barcelona born, La Masia graduate like Garcia.

Torres would just gone to one of the many other big clubs after him that were willing to pay what Valencia wanted.

Garcia had other offers this summer. He turned them down because he wants to return to his boyhood club. That meant that were stuck with whatever Barca were willing to pay.

Amad Traore is a wonderkid that's been linked to a lot of top clubs. Most importantly in this context, his contract doesn't expire next season, so his transfer fee isn't really relevant.

All of what you’ve just typed is just made up conjecture that you’ve plucked from your anus.

Transfers are part business part politics.
Of course it doesn't make sense to have a player sat on the bench for 12 months instead of accepting a smaller fee than you wanted.
But as others have mentioned, you are also protecting future deals.

You only have to look at the way Daniel Levy does business.
Nobody fucks around with him. He's stubborn and also wants top dollar.
So clubs don't even bother tapping up his players because they know that will only piss him off and scupper any chance of actually signing the player.
If you want one of his players, expect to pay the (over the top) asking price.

Well done City for sticking to our guns. We set a price. Barca didn't want to pay it.
A packet of wine gums and some curly wurlys in bonuses just wasn't going to do it.
Garcia needs to be asking Barca why they didn't just pay the asking price, and question how much they really wanted him.
Saying they will get him for free next year doesn't help him in any way.

any truth int his spurs approach Stones story?
We will never know, aside from Ornstein's word. I do think if he manages to stay fit this season and has a few good games he will leave next year if he is unable to displace Laporte and Dias.

The short term financial hit is more than worth it long term if it sends an unequivocal message to Barca and others in the G14 that City aren't a soft touch. And it also sends an important message to any other youngsters who might be tempted to pull a similar move in future. Yes, You’ll eventually get your move but you’ll probably lose an entire season of development and potential first team game time.
Long term, we’ve potentially made ten or 20 times more than £15m with this stance.
