No senior management in this country understands IT , yet without it their business cannot function.
I agree mate. They also need to know what business they are in (to overcome the virus) and I’m not convinced that Dido, PHE and Serco have really grasped this. Otherwise they would have realised early on that there was a mismatch between the epidemic in Halls of Residence and the number of cases being reported. Whoever was responsible, would have also checked the accuracy of the information collection.

Went to IKEA yesterday unfortunately, most had masks some bellends didn’t, I refused to get in the lift with some who didn’t have a mask on, that woman started ranting at been shown up for been a selfish cow, that’s how I deal with these people now. Make them look cunts in public, they do the big I am but start gobbing off when people call them out

Big chains like Ikea should just refuse entry to people not wearing masks, they can afford the extra security

It does give the impression that either there is no-one looking and thinking at what's coming in.

We didn’t though did we really, shops were open, public transport still was available, people were told to work from home if they could but how many is that? None in manufacturing to start with really.
If we closed up shop and tested everyone arriving into the uk after the 2 weeks we’d know how many and who would have it, as they’d either be in hospital, have died of it or survived the 2 weeks incubation period.
I know it probably isn’t practical but would be better than the half baked and half arsed measures we’ve put up with for 7 months now.
Christ I drove to Anglesey on Saturday and came back Sunday, it was something I needed to do so had to go but people in Wrexham couldn’t do what I was doing!! It’s fucking ludicrous.
It's a great theory and I'd go with it but for the etsting everyone coming in.....2 words or maybe 4....illegal immigrants, boat people.

The country is getting more divided every day. I fear only a huge surge in deaths would change a lot of the public's behaviour.

If we continue to have these lowish numbers for a while then the idea that we are now over reacting will grow.

The choice seems to be China water torture as we are currently seeing or being waterboarded.

Why would it need to change if there is no surge in deaths, what exactly are we trying to achieve here?

is your logic that to solve this properly there needs to be a catastrophe?

infection doesn't matter. we get infected with all sorts every year, our species has survived because we can generally fight them off when we are healthy
Thing is unlike flu where about 0.05% of the population don't fight it off and die with this particular infection around 1% have died in this country and going forward maybe a slightly lower percentage will but still probably 10 times that of flu.
Not to mention the rather large number that may be heading towards chronic health problems.

I am not trying to pretend that the answers are easy or that all restrictions are justified because of covid , there are major problems with any response but denying the reality of the outbreak and the damage it is causing does nothing to assist rational debate.

My logic? Please explain

you say that the country is getting more divided and that only a huge death surge can unify behaviour - but you dont state that a complete collapse in case/death rates and removal of restrictions and growth of sensible societal responsibility will also unify behaviour. At the moment, like you suggest, we're in an awkward situation where we neither here of there with it and can find no unification. I merely mean to highlight that you can only see a death surge unifying people now. you probably dont mean that but that's how i read it, rightly or wrongly.

What is happening through much more testing and measures that are not being widely followed is more cases and an increase in death.

The % rise to some is a sign of things to come they see what might happen. A lot of the public see death increases in actual numbers. Double digit numbers of deaths even low triple digits isn't high enough to make them change their ways.

The problem with a small but steady increase is the govt won't back down on local lockdowns and some people won't follow them anyhow. Day by day week by week people feel they are in a depressing limbo. A slow deteriation of heath jobs etc

Hence Chinese water torture as explained.

I have never denied the reality of the outbreak however I do see a lot of people denying the reality of the economic catastrophe that is coming our way if we carry on like we are.

There is always going to be an increase in deaths, it happens every winter. Whilst the expected deaths is round about where it's expected to be then what's the issue? It's horrible for anyone to pass away but there's 2 things we all have in common and that's that we are born and we die. It's part of life.

You're right I didn't mean that. Every day more people are turning away from the govt advice. People are pretty selfish and the only way some will change is if they see hospitals full and people dying. Nobody knows how this will end but for the next few months it will be a small or large increase in deaths.

There is no evidence that cases and deaths are going to collapse anytime soon. The govt have fucked up so bad that enough people no longer even trust the figures anymore.

We are in a catch 22 position the only thing that will focus minds is the thing we want to avoid happening.

Well on several occasions you have stated that what is happening is not a wave.
In the meantime I don't recall reading any credible commentator anywhere denying that the economy is being damaged.

It's a tough situation but the big danger in your view, and it's a similar view to what happened when this virus hit, is that if youre wrong the surge can happen so quick that by the time you realise it and add measures it's too late.

I think we are on a path now in the countries psyche which is near impossible to get off. Remember an acceptable number deaths is individual to everyone.
