We tried, I think but didn't because, Zinchenko wouldn't leave. That leaves questions about should we have bought one anyway. I'm inclined to say we should. Lets see how it goes with Ake, Mendy, Cancelo, Zinchenko. Maybe we'll look again in January at left back.

I highly doubt that. Both that we tried, and that he 'wouldn't' leave.

At best we identified options Should he leave. But ive not seem anything to suggest he was pushed or offered to clubs, or that anyone came in with an offer, let alone one the club would have accepted.

We can still buy from championship clubs, why don't we take a punt on a left back, like West Ham are about to do with Ryan Manning from QPR for £5m, it's not much of a gamble. He is a very good left back/wing back, arguably the best in that league with really good stats.

It is about time our scouts found some gems in the lower divisions. Normally the excuse is that these type of signings are too expensive, but Manning shows this is not always the case.

And frankly anyone might be an improvement.

For me it’s been a disappointing window as ultimately we have lost Otamendi, Silva and Sane for Dias, Ake and Torres. It seems better at the back and worse up front.

For me, I still think we needed one more in midfield be it Thiago or Aouar, I would feel a lot better.

Left back is an issue as to me Mendy is not good enough but with 2 years on his contract he is going nowhere, next season might be different.

Ake has the ability to make the position his for the season, although longer term we need a specialist there.

Fingers crossed Dias makes this window a great one.

Buying from Championship is a massive risk, which top 6 club has last bought in from a championship club and done well, resulting in silverware and such, along with the signing actually proving great. There's the odd case working out, but most times it doesn't.

Recent I can recall is Mason Mount from derby, because of Lampard's weird admiration for him. Yet they still bought in Havertz and Ziyech, both who are much more dynamic than Mount and much more capable, similar profile.

£50m net spend puts is in a strong position for a rebuild if Pep leaves, plus an Aguero replacement. This window has been frustrating but it will be part of a longer term plan. We don’t react to a couple of bad results the way the rags do anymore.
Absolutely get what you are saying and agree for the most part.

However, its not just a couple of bad results - performances have been on the decline for a while (all last season) andeven as fans we can see that there are immediate needs within the team that need addressing. Now, what we arent aware of is all the reasons why or why not that may or may not happen. For instance Mendy is a liability - Pep has seen this in the last game where he subbed him and brought on Ake to shore things up. - lots of fans have been on about this for a season or more. Its clear Pep is of that line of thinking as well - so i do wonder what it is that has stopped us getting in someone to at least challenge Mendy.

Is it cause Pep sees Ake being able to do that? - if so it could levae us short of centre half cover if we get a bad bit of luck with injuries (though we could also use Cancello there as well). - however both are square pegs in round holes (thats not a criticism of either player btw)

Is it cause of Zinchenko is still here - conflicting reports on that

Is it because there is no one suitable?

Is it financial reasons?

Could be all those or none I guess

can we not at least give ferran time? the sane comparisons need to start 6-12 months into his time with us before its decided it he`s better or worse.

As the English window hasn’t closed we could still sign players from the championship. What about Lloyd Kelly from Bournemouth?

Considering Sane didn't play last season I'd have thought Torres was a massive upgrade.

It's as though the top brass got their heads together at the end of last season and decided that the only reason we finished so far behind Liverpool was the central defensive area. So obviously that was all that needed changing, very naive if you ask me, what happened to Khaldoon's remarks about more players will come in ,before Dias arrived but it made out there would be more than just him. Still a left back, central midfielder and a striker short.

Maybe give Sheik a call, let him know he's got a bunch of idiots running the club, that's why we never win anything, he might give you the job.

Read my post again, because you clearly didn’t comprehend the point I was making.

Mount was on loan from Chelsea.

Robertson and Maguire we’re both technically playing for a championship club when they moved to Liverpool and Leicester respectively.

Mount a Chelsea youth player who was on loan at Derby. Surprised you find it weird as he's class: two footed, great touch, good technically all round.
