That's one of the craziest things about this. Trump, who has a ton to gain with the passage of any stimulus, has been totally disengaged from the process until very recently when he woke up to the fact that he's going to lose. He probably could've pressured Republican Senators to go for whatever had be been on top of things either back in June or over the summer but he didn't and at this point so close to the election he's stuck. The basic dynamic is that McConnell can't pass something with mostly Dem votes because a. that's not who he is, and b. it complicates his own re-election, but he also can't get his members to agree because a. they legitimately don't want to and don't think this is necessary, and b. they're looking at the same polls we are and think Trump is going to lose in a few weeks - so his power over them is diminished. I think it's very unlikely anything gets done before January.
This is an excellent analysis. I’d add that the GOP is going to have to move heavily to the “we’re for austerity” line that’s been overrun by Trump and COVID just to have a platform plank to rebuild from.

Anyway, I note that #45 has denounced White supremacy 3 times in his town hall and that's hardly resonated on here.

Not that I give a fuck about the guy and it's too little too late, but as even handed as opinion supposed to be, I'm not surprised it's not been mentioned.
Genuine question: does it seem sincere to you? To me it's like when I ask my niece to share with the other kids at the playground and she begrudgingly agrees after the fifth time.

But it doesn't really matter.

You've made it plain that you're with Ice Cube, it's show us the money or we're not playing this rigged game.

Well the money isn't forthcoming, from either party, so presumably you're all for game over. African Americans should heed the call to not get fooled again and boycott this meaningless contest.

But all the indications are that quite the opposite is happening!

Quelle surprise!

Actually, it's not really a surprise, for either of us. As you're well aware, it's empty rhetoric to demand money up front when you don't have the power to compel, and even emptier rhetoric to threaten dire consequences you can't deliver.

No one, and certainly not a mumbling Ice Cube, could deliver a mass black boycott of this election, or funnel the black vote in one particular direction. The black vote in America does not have one voice, no one person pulls a lever and African Americans comply.

Which raises the question why you bother? If this election is just another neoliberal con trick, why do you care so much whether TweedleTrump or TweedleBiden gets in?

Sincere or not, it's been asked of him and he's answered. I don't trust the fucker, but at the end of the day, no reporter has asked the 'sincerity' of his answer.

You've answered it nicely; it doesn't matter who gets in. The mere fact that Cube wants to finally have something to show for that lending of the vote should be the thing that matters.

I'm not sure if you're aware but this type of shit has happened since the 60s. Nothing changes.

Had Clinton blowing his saxophone with all his promises and nothing changed.

Had an actual Black president with the power in both Houses and nothing changed.

So, in Cube's defence, if he dances with the Devil in order for a deal to be struck, I can see his reasoning.

The funny thing is, I've watched neolib leaning online broadcasters who were angry at Cube, actually shift their position to understand that the disaffected citizen's number will grow come the next election, if nothing is addressed.

All Cube has done is chip away at the vote guarantee and rightly so.

1. It's an empty threat, no one in the African American community has the power to deliver, which makes the threat meaningless, worse, it exposes just how weak and disorganised the African American community is.

2. A deal to be struck? No deal is struck without leverage, and if the African American community does not have the leadership that can deliver either a boycott, or rally its constituents to any one party, there is no leverage.

There's nothing I disagree with there and something I've been in discussion with online.

I've found it amazing that whilst there's quite a few people onboard with Cube, there's quite a few that are disparaging him for speaking up! Some saying he's not a 'leader', so I've asked where the leaders are, then? Are they waiting on another Malcolm or MLK to appear to lead?

I have questioned what point of the divide is, on messaging and movement.

I'm still in dialogue.

And you will be, for some time.

The black community has a common enemy, racism, but that's it. The moment you move a millimetre away from that, everyone heads in different directions.

They have a second enemy; financial oppression.

Knowing their worth is another realisation Black people are just awakening to.

Whether financial oppression stands alone or is a result of racism is a topic for another thread.

What I would say, and I'm sure this will come as no surprise to you, is the black community is not homogeneous. I've seen some real ding dongs between the Nigerian and Afro-Caribbean community and of course there are many black folk who do not define themselves by the colour of their skin.

What I would say is the root cause of so much friction you encounter in here, is your outright rejection of the existing political system.

The system may well be shot to fuck, but it's the only game in town, you have to engage with it.

Because if you don't engage you end up being irrelevant, and I know of no victory ever won by the irrelevant.

The main reason is that his candidate lost and he wasn't happy. But in that saltiness there are nuggets of truths.

African Americans often dumbly vote Democratic consistently against their stated interests and it has never achieved a thing for the community. We've got a few race hustlers who make it big on the back of "standing up for Black America." Somehow only the hustlers lives gets better.

In the poorest African American communities across the country, voucher program and school choice is a virtual lock. 65-75% no matter the State or community. Yet they vote Democratic. Who'd rather mortgage the future of young black kids in other to get the support of Teacher's Unions. Who are against school choice.

It's sad and laughable. But hey, let's focus on who is or isn't denying White Supremacists. That's really what is important to black people.

What a Joke!
