Arsenal (H) Post match thread

- Arsenal's defending is impressive. I wonder if Arteta's departure had anything to do with our defense falling apart.
- Bernardo is all over the pitch (MoM)
- Gundogan and Rodri, unsurprisingly, are nowhere to be found
- Aguero with the juicy pass for the goal
- Dias is a leader
- Ake, Walker, and Cancelo were solid
why having a go at gundy he kept the ball great when he came on

Ake is the answer to our left
It's an absolute mystery as to why Pep has persisted with Mendy for so long.
Mahrez atrocious

That was one hell of a tactical game, wow! I am very pleased, we had a short slump 65-69 minutes, but otherwise we we very good, Pep sorted our right side with Cancelo and even our pressing improved dramatically. Arteta set up the system to limit the number of goal scoring opportunities and still we could have done better in a few situations. Riyad is still a bit too hesitant for me when in decision making situation, but he was impressive receiving and holding the ball on the out line. Gundogan definitely improved the balance, but I was slightly surprised Raheem moving to the left. Overall, very satisfied with the result after playing Mourinho 2.0, beta version. Arteta is onto something, but definitely not releasing his inner Pep.

Will take that. Don’t often get a scrappy win. Shown some good defensive solidity there although a lot of that is down to Arsenal seemingly not even trying to score late on.

Dias didn’t really have much to do in truth but looks comfortable, Ake isn’t going to offer us anything going forward but is solid at left back, if he’s playing there often though I think we kind of need a Sane type who is going to hug the line and go down it otherwise we’re too narrow and Foden is completely wasted in that role. Walker was fantastic, asked a lot of him tonight with a lot of positional movement which i don’t think it’s unfair to say isn’t his strong point but completely shackled Aubameyang. Cancelo was hit and miss but played a weird unfamiliar position so gets some leeway. Rodri looks to have filled his boots with an extra lining of iron. I think Gareth Barry would do him for pace even now, send him back to spain.

Going forward is a concern, we look hopeless right now. I know we’ve got kdb, Aguero and Jesus to all come back and get fully fit which will obviously improve us but we’re a side that’s built not to rely on individuals, it’s the team play that’s supposed to get us the goals and that’s almost non-existent right now.

Bernardo was fantastic in the middle, immense energy, I dislike sterling dropping deep greatly but he got the winner. Foden out wide left hasn’t worked once yet, not involved enough out there despite being involved in the goal and having the best other chance. mahrez despite all the hate was dangerous today, nothing came off for him but to ignore his threat is just hating on him for the sake of it. Aguero looked rusty but his presence alone causes fear, every minute played is him closer to peak fitness.

Need to improve but got to be happy with the 3 points.

That's a good win against a tough team who are a couple of weeks ahead. Solid performances from several key players. Nice to see Sergio back who, I thought, looked fresh and tidy in possession, and joyous to see BS looking like the player we love. Much more solid defensively in a good performance.

Glad Pep realised it is better to have Walker's pace in the back four up against the quick striker rather than him on the right wing 70 yards from our goal. Hopefully he uses it against other teams whos main asset is one pacy striker getting in behind.

Thought Pep was a bit more pragmatic today once we went one up. First half they had a couple of 1 on 1s against Edison, second half we shut them out snd took few chances.

Had something of a ‘steady the ship’ feel about it, and although only 1-0 the boys looked concentrated and disciplined.
Onward and upwards.
