Arsenal (H) Post match thread

Shes fucking ace in my opinion. She wasnt arsed one bit. Kun shouldnt have done it, in a perfect world. But we dont live in a perfect world. He stepped on the line but didnt cross it. There was no malice on kuns part at all.
Maybe, and even this is a bit of a stretch and not really needed, he should apologise publically and say he was shocked at the reaction blah blah blah.
We will get crucified for this for, ooh 1 day.
Fuck em he did nothing wrong
No mate, you don’t apologise when you’ve done nothing wrong.

Full credit to Sian Massey, she handled it really well. Shrugged Kun off to make it clear it was not acceptable, but no overreaction at all. Signalled to the fourth official and ref there was no issue. Really professional and some of our male officials could take a leaf out of her book.
Aguero must be facing a 3 match ban, just ask Bernardo

Good to see Bernardo in the side and playing well. Cancelo got involved a lot. Dias and Ake looked assured at the back.

Good result without two key players. 7pts from 12 isn’t too bad now.

If any ban hope we fight it and use past evidence of players touching officials and it not even being brought up. Also there is a certain Liverpool player out there at the moment claiming that var officials has cheated the dippers by drawing bent lines. Not seen any outcry about that but I suppose 1 is english and the other Argentine

It was great to see us do the other side of the game so well. The defence stood strong and got stuck in. We need gritty performances like this. It was not the most attacking game but enjoyable for other reasons.

Dias and Ake look to be superb buys so well done city. Slowly but surly we are getting into form. Add Kev and Laporte inti that team and it looks very strong.

Very good result against a good Arsenal team. we needed these three points. Win the game in hand and then we’re back up there. Great to see Sergio back I thought his touch looked good and gave us a much better balance upfront. Defence looking really good though I just couldn’t sit still towards the end of the game waiting for the usual cock up. But it didn’t come! Really like the look of ruben. A really good team performance all round though I still don’t get what Mahers does other than wild shooting, not passing when others better placed and slowing us down. Bring on Wednesday! Oh and Liverpool got screwed by var happy days : )

Think we learnt from the Leicester game. No need to go chasing a 2nd goal if teams are going to sit back and be compact.

Yes. I viewed it as easing back into the season, while others are dropping points. We often moan about Pep’s lack of pragmatism. Well, he showed some today and it got us three points. Save the more showy stuff for later.

This season is going to be difficult for everybody.

Every Tom Dick & Harry can leg it about & draw 6-6 at the moment, then get beat the week after. How will most of them look in February ?

Delighted that Pep has seen the light & realised we need to tighten up.

I thought it was a game which shows how good he really is.

Sterling's point about Aguero in MEN is interesting. Basically that when Serge is on the pitch with his experience and instincts, the defence has to focus on him which gives that extra space for the others to move around fluidly. I spent the first 20 mins confused about the formation but finally got it (I think) - 3 at the back plus Rodri and Cancelo covering in front, making a defensive 5 when needed, then Bernando roaming between the lines and 4 attackers making an attacking 5. So maybe it was the 5 -5 formation that Bielsa employed. With the defence looking more solid it certainly gave us yet another way of playing. Oddly for me, I didn't spend the 2nd half dreading that one mistake would muck it up. Good to see Eddy making saves too.

Youre right. It's not often you see a pragmatic Pep, but I think the acceptance that we aren't bang at it at the moment led him to think, sod it - we can see this out and brought Dinho on (who was either really pissed off or was told to intimidate them) to see it out. Let these feckers comeout and chase the game having sat back with 11 in the last third for most of the game. It worked in the semi, but not this time.

Great defensive performance as we also showed against Leeds. If our back four becomes:
Walker/Cancelo, Diaz, Laporte, Ake/Cancelo we are in for a good season. Rodri looks comfortable with Diaz organising behind him. Bernardo and Foden have the energy in midfield. I am very optimistic after the last two matches. With a front three of Sterling, Sergio/Jesus, Torres/Mahrez we are cooking on gas. Let's hope we can get Jesus back asap as we will miss his pressing against the best sides (like he produced against Real Madrid)

I was pleased with the performance from a number of perspectives. Firstly, Pep showed that he learns and changes. After being caught be a number of teams including Arsenal who are fast and skilful on the break we were happy to give more possession and play deeper than in the past. Walker did a fantastic job on Abameyang but it was clear that this was a new defensive formation, three at the back with cancelo tucking in next to Rodri. Phil, Mahrez and Stirling all moved flexible around Kun, particularly in the first half exploiting space. Secondly, we are starting to look like we can defend. Dias, Ake and Walker take a bow. The few times they broke through, it was consistently Cancelo that allowed it, but the formation was such that we cleared trouble up more effectively than normal. Eddies had a good game other than his mid range distribution which was a bit off.
A major bonus for me was seeing Bernie back to his energetic best.
I had to laugh at Kun putting his arm round the assistant referee shoulder. And laugh even more at the Motd mob making such a fuss about it. Lucky we have pickford to deflect attention or he would be up for a three match ban.
