But home schooled kids have a much looser timetable , it is not a block of eight hours ,it can be done around jobs and the kids can get on with work on their own , parents who home school normally must wonder what all the fuss is about

If you are a kid of key workers then you go to school as before
Yes it’s that simple. No interaction with other kids, no proper routine. That is so important. We already had six months without school. Kids go to school because they need to, teachers are experts in teaching, most parents are not. As someone with a 9 and 6 year old, this year has been a nightmare, their behaviour deteriorated throughout the first lockdown. It’s really not that easy to home school when I have a full time job (at least for now).
Thats what all the fuss is about.

And swimming baths... this can easily be the most depressing time of year for so many people, they need to be able to keep sane throughout this.
I'm gutted. It's made such a difference since they opened the swimming baths up for me. Not feeling as lethargic, actually getting out the house a bit more (been working from home for 8 months), feeling stronger etc. The aquatics centre have got it all spaced out etc, loads of room, you have to book ahead, seems as safe as can be yet it's shutting as of Thursday for a month. Nevermind the fact that general healthiness helps the body fight off bloody viruses.......

Well kids can still meet and play outside , i think ,home schooling clearly works or nobody would do it , it is not forever , if you have two parents you must be able to cover the basics

This lockdown should have been whilst the kids were on a break and a couple more weeks

Can you not cope for a few weeks in exchange for a chance to improve life for everybody?

This isn't about trying to look good or crying over not being able to keep up with weight sessions etc.

Exercise improves the wellbeing for many both physically and mentally. I've not been a fan of other industries having to shut down but surely Gyms, Leisure centres etc should rank as "essential" as they improve your health.

The closure of pubs etc is bad enough, socially we can get by with Zoom etc but you can't really mimic going to the gym.

Gyms, for the last time, are having hardly any impact on the rise of cases, this has been pointed out many many times yet you just won’t accept it. I’ve more chance catching it in the supermarket or on public transport than I have of catching it in the gym or swimming baths.

The govt should consider keeping gyms and golf courses open.

Many people use the gym to release endorphins, improve their mental health and wellbeing. A good session can completely improve your mood/ mind set on that day. Weight loss is a bonus and likely to prevent illness during winter. I imagine playing golf can do similar.

A lot of gyms have observed distancing measures with equipment being spread out and plenty of desensitizer and paper towels available.

Running outside isn't for everybody especially those with reoccurring injuries etc.

Just find a private gym that isn't a big busy corporate one, a lot of them should be staying open via the back door.

As for golf, see it as an opportunity to go and play on courses you're not a member of. No one will be there to kick you off so sneak on and go for your life. Take a few cans for the 19th hole happy days

You will never get through to them. People that don't use gyms want them all shut for some bizarre reason.

I get the health benefits but you can work out and keep fit without using a gym

Thing is I’m fortunate in that I can currently get out and run or cycle as I’m not in work, or even when I am back I’m relatively safe running alone in the evenings, many women won’t feel that they are and as they can’t now run in the groups they normally do, won’t go out at all. It’s another set of ridiculous rules they’ve brought in with no thought or foresight as to the ramifications of closing these establishments.

I'm coming round to thinking that we won't have any other option than to extend this lockdown. If the lockdown works then Christmas will pump the numbers up anyway and if it doesn't work, is that showing that lockdowns won't work again?

When you look at the daily figures now, it's going to take a Herculean effort to get the case numbers down.

We're averaging 22,000 or so cases every day and it will probably take a couple of weeks for that number to start to drop substantially. It would feel like a waste of time if we lockdown for a month (especially just before Christmas) and end up with "only" 8,000 cases a day as we know they'll be up to 16,000 within a few weeks. Christmas is going to see students going home, everyone mixing and travelling and is likely to give the numbers a real boost.

Maybe it's just me, but I'm not sure this is going to work. In truth, other than the local closed, working at home and wearing a mask in the shops it just doesn't feel too difficult. The first lockdown felt much harder, unless I'm just used to it all now.

It feels like it's too little too late.
