Yes the PCR tests are fit for purpose. Analytical/diagnostic science is not where TV shows will have you think it is. A false negative is bad, granted. All tests suffer the same fate. No test is 100% accurate/precise.
It's better to receive a false positive and isolate asymptomatically than it is to receive a false negative and mix with others. False positives make up the underwhelming minority of all results. I don't have the figures to hand because I don't think anyone has that as you can't confirm a result without a confirmatory test which is at least as accurate.
Regarding the vaccine thing, there's too much hysteria and disinformation about and it's sadly led to this. As much as we should and do trust healthcare workers, they're not the experts on this stuff, they are experts on healthcare, not drug development. They play a crucial role in reporting possible side effects and not much else.

A new antibidy test that also measures T-cell immunity will be with us by the start of December so don't worry too much.I have just done an antibody test and it was positive but very low numbers , about 8 1/2months since i got it so they have near!y gone , dead right i want a vaccine !
