The Boxing thread

I was giving Joyce lots of credit from the first round onwards, just shows you what a good strong jab can do. People were getting carried way with the Dubois power shots, on the watch-along I was viewing but that jab was landing consistently and doing damage.

I also thought Joyce showed a good chin and shot riding ability to take some of the sting out. Saw a few things from him I didn't know he had too really(the footwork), very mature performance.

Dubois just panicked about sustaining permanent eye damage for me and thought better of risking it. If it is a broken orbital bone then you can't really argue with that decision, those can be hard to come back from.

Great tactics from Joyce, he was in full control for most of the fight. There was one point in the second round where, after a flurry from Dubois, Joyce hit DD with 8/9 solid jabs in row that rocked his head back and stopped Dubois from going on the attack. The comms totally missed it as they were still waxing lyrical about Dubois' attack 40 seconds earlier. Had a feeling then Joyce would win it as Dubois wasn't even trying to jab at that stage. Big wake up call for Warren and Dubois, big opportunity for JJ who deserves a shot now at his age.

As for he ending, not sure really. He certainly quit no doubt about that, the only issue was whether he had reason to. You could see that jab right on the eye sent a shudder through his body. If he simply wanted to quit he could have done so on his stool and let the doctor or his trainer take the stick. He's definitely gonna have a lot to prove next time he's in a big fight though.

Joyce meanwhile looks like he's gone for a late night stroll. If he had a fast right hand he'd be the best in the business.

Definitely thought it was an orbital injury, the way he was stretching his jaw between rounds.
Delighted for Joe, seen him loads in the amateurs over the years. Not a banger but a chin of granite and the heart of a lion.
The sheer level of disrespect shown to an old school fighter who has done the hard yards by the newspapers this morning (The Guardian had a two page spread on Dubois in which he barely got a mention), by the laughable bias of pundits like Woodhall this evening and by the bitter salty tears of Warren post fight was pathetic and disgusting. So so happy that he shoved it to the wankers

Bunce asking DD the first question and then Frank saying 'we did it' :)

Joyce should sign with Matchroom on a 3 fight deal. Get Usyk next then either a shot at AJ if he wins or someone like Chisora if he loses. He'll make a shit load of money now if him and fat face make the right decisions. If he stays as Warren's bit on the side he'll end up going nowhere and he can't do that at 35.

Someone should have told Dubois you're allowed to move your head during a fight, thought he had limited ability before but christ he's got nothing that will trouble the serious heavyweights.

Yeah, nothing against Dubois but it's nice to see a few people humbled and more importantly Joyce will be getting some well earned respect after that performance(I hope).

I've noticed on the youtube replays, there's this culture of fanboying the networks. "Matchroom fix" this and "Sky commentary bias" that, "Hearn snake" that, "Eddie's scared Dubois gonna beat his Golden Goose" that. I just don't get how anyone can't see that all networks have bias, all promoters have to talk up their fighters, they all have money invested. At the end of the day though, BT are worse for favouritism in football and boxing for me but that's not worth much. I also think Warren is easily the biggest bullshitter between him and Hearn, while having a another level of bitterness and pettiness that Hearn hasn't shown.

Who's Joyce currently signed with, anyone know?

Edit: Think they just confirmed the orbital bone was broken and there's some nerve damage.
