Just heard it reported that Johnson had announced that “no British Prime Minister can accept” the terms offered by the the EU.

I remember the exact same words being used by Johnson about an Irish Sea border.

Sounds like the deal’s on then.

I expect even now Saint Frost is telling Johnson that we tried the old trick of having a viable walk away option and the political will to use it, but Merkel has just tried it on us. Given the assessments of the damage to the UK of No Deal, Prime Minister, do you want to piss off the ERG or the electorate?

(I appreciate IDS might have been lying this morning, but he did confirm that that tactic has not worked. "The EU has not budged an inch.")

Hit the paywall.
Are there any good reasons why we shouldn’t?
Because gloating about disaster seems to be worse than causing it.

For the avoidance of doubt, "gloating about disaster" means saying "Don't blame me, I voted Remain". There is still time to avoid disaster, but it isn't down to Remainers to save us.

It's a theme though - like the Tory at lunchtime, asked what Johnson should do now, trying to blame Starmer for not committing to support a deal in Parliament. Er... "What deal?"

As I said on the previous page, this is going to be arrogant of me but I said Johnson was going to do the Irish Sea border when he first took over. It was one of my finer moments on this thread, a few disagreed at the time.
Don't gloat.

Only that the poor little lambs that voted brexit wont like it and we should leave them to come to their own conclusions.

It ends with a cryptic last line: 'The battle of Brexit is over and that must be recognised before the battle for a better Britain can be rejoined'.

Because after reading page after page of the lies they fell for coming home to roost they need a bit of deflection.

You inferred that people voting leave on the premise they were against a federal Europe were "lies" as it was never going to happen, nor would it happen.

I provided examples of how a federal Europe is not a 'lie' but a genuine, determined campaign by many in the EU who want to see it come to fruition.

We ARE discussing (or trying to) discuss the latest brexit news; it's people like you who keep on the "brexit is shit!" bandwagon that bores everyone to tears.
Where do i 'infer' anything about federalism?
THe 'lies' i was referring to include such whoppers as an easy peasy trade agreement, no probs for the car industry, frictionless import/export etc etc. All demonstrably false, as proven by this weeks events.
And if you're so fucking bored, stop reading my posts.

Boris agrees to what the ERG call soft, then announces he's "retiring" to live in an EU country once his successor is in place. Other wise known as the Pig Fucker gambit.

:)

The negotiation of the past 4 weeks or so has not been UK v EU, it has been Johnson/Gove v ERG.

They all know No Deal is a disaster zone and no government could survive it + step 1 in a no deal scenario is go back to try and get the deal you just turned down. When you play it forward - Johnson would have to resign they have to pick a new leader and the new leader has to do a deal anyway. They would end up in a leadership contest with Gove offering to bring back the deal that Johnson failed to get through or some nutter like John Redwood suggesting we can just get on with managing the chaos of no deal and economic disaster. Redwood would obviously lose. Gove would look like a traitor to his own cause and be vilified by the hard right.

But notwithstanding this the ERG nutters still cant bring themselves to accept a deal.

So you were talking about "lies" on this thread that nobody on the leave side has even been discussing at present? Did you not notice the discussion about federalism/sovereignty these past few days?

Yeah, prime example of what i'm talking about.

Prime example of why you'd rather discuss federalism (hardly the topic of the moment) rather than the lies that got us to this point (including about federalism).
