Someone just calculated that on the rate of week one vaccinations it will only take until sometime in 2038 to vaccinate the nation.

I know its a nonsense stat as numbers will escalate but it puts the good sounding numbers into perspective.

Well unless i am thick - that is wrong?

1 week 138k - 7.176 million a year - say we need to do 60 million? - That's 8.37 years.

We will get up to half a million a week i would imagine at some point.

People need 2 jabs.

Fair enough but its not a bad start in the first week, pace will clearly pick up once we have the Oxford one. Once we have done all the over 50s it doesn't really matter anyway as few if any will then die of it. If i has to hazard a guess 15% to 30% of the country have already had it - so between 9 and 18 million. Get the most vulnerable vaccinated by spring and we are out of this largely.

don't get what you are saying.
That those that actually live in Scotland pretty much overwhelmingly reject Boris and the tories, and labour for that matter in favour of Sturgeon, and that rejection will incease in the spring election, so the fact that mainly english tories hate her means little, except she must be doing something right after a decade in power to still be able to increase vote share.

Nicola

She recommended that those people forming a Christmas bubble should only meet on one day, instead of five, and not stay overnight "unless it is unavoidable".

She said: "Firstly and unequivocally the safest way to spend Christmas this year for you and for those you love is to stay within your own household and your own home.

"My strong recommendation is this is what you should do if at all possible."

Sound advice.

My parents live in Redcar.

We're going to attempt an outdoor picnic half way between.

Proper get together Easter - hopefully - if they're vaccinated by then.

Wish us luck!

Won't reaching those kind of numbers per week impact on the 15 mins people have to wait after each injection in terms of throughput?

These figures are tiny given what's ahead. They will increase of course but they need to get to ten times those rates.

Obviously. Though tbh, I didn't think we'd be at this stage for another several months a few months back. It's certainly nothing to scoff at as its just the beginning.

Not much in the conference. Boris quipping - Have yourself a merry little Christmas - and I do mean LITTLE.

Nothing stopping people moving into a communal area for the observation to allow the jabbers to carry on.

Think very carefully about spending time indoors with elderly relatives.

Keep it small. Keep it short. Keep it local says Chris Whitty.

Boris asks you to consider waiting to see vulnerable until Easter when most of them should be protected.

There just isnt the room, they cant social distance , when i had the flu jab it was in, name , are you allergic to eggs, jabbed and straight out of the building in a one way system

Vaccinations are like steroid injections, you are supposed to stay in the building for a while but in reality very few do it

It will take as long as it takes but the nhs are experts at rolling out vaccinations

You could say the same about Trump to be fair, more voted for him this time than 2016.

Professor Chris Whitty says there are four things to think about over Christmas

Keep it small – less transmission
Keep it short – less risk of transmission occurring
Keep it local – travel from high to low incidence areas have more risk of passing on the virus
Think of the most vulnerable people

He says: "That way we can reduce the risk of Christmas. We all accept there’s a risk at Christmas, but if we do this we can reduce that risk."

Are you suggesting they will drop the 15 min observation period?
