We had been told to set up for online learning 6 weeks ago but were also told this would only be used when years were closed or our students had to self isolate. To spring this on us at this late stage is disgraceful. We were given no prior warning of a mass online curriculum needing to be set up. This costs huge amounts of money in software and training, not to mention the time setting it up. The schools should have been shut as in the summer or at least all students should be part time so that social distancing was realistic. It’s sweeping through my school now. 3 teachers have it, one is seriously ill on a ventilator and I know 2 teachers who have died in the last month. This isn’t reported in the press as it would cause panic and force the gov to close schools. My lad has had SIX periods of isolation in 2 months and is expected to do an exam in January. It’s one holy fuck up of a mess
Tbh she has told me that they already have everything in place so that she can do some online teaching and set work online. The pupils have digital work books that are submitted for assessment.
She seems to have it already to go.

They’ve had a few staff off with it, including the head who has now been in isolation three times! Also some staff have been taking the piss, breaking rules left right and centre, including not saying anything when being tested positive. But none have been hospitalised and she knows no one who has died.

Some fella on C4 news just said that in Swansea the figures equate to 2 people getting it every 5 mins. Thats where I am and got to say I dont feel too clever myself today

Not sure this will help but this is the Swansea data since cases started rising a month ago,

Date // weekly total cases for the 7 days up to that date // the Weekly Pop(ulation) score as I post daily for GM and other locations.

The number on the far right is the percentage rise in cases (they can be falls and would show as minus numbers if so - but these are all increases) The higher the number the bigger the rise.

A hint of a possible turn around right at the top. So fingers crossed it has peaked here. As per usual with this kind of data it is 5 days ago so may already be better.

Our structure of government is not fit for purpose. It is like something from the 1960s with too many politicians, very slow decision-making, and a London-centric approach.
Worse, it's not "this" government, it's the whole system of government/parliament, it was fit for purpose in the 1860's not even the 1960's, and it certainly isn't fit to run a crisis like this, whatever party was in charge.

Everything in this crisis has been reactive, not proactive, and they should have passed emergency laws at the start to prevent them having to vote for every damned decision.

Thanks for taking the time to post that. Is that including the 11,000 they didnt include in the stats due to a balls up?

So sale where I live has a lower infection rate than Bristol which has been downgraded?
What are the government and Hancock doing? They are fucking idiots.
Now talk of a january lockdown yet we were told weeks ago we should be ok by the spring.
This is a farce.
Hancock also said that the NHS was coping in Bristol which informed the downgrading decision

Not moving most of GM and West/North Lancashire to tier 2 is reduculous. In GM only Prestwich, Rochdale and North Manchester have a case for being in tier 3.
Stratford Upon Avon too - Rediculous.

Aaah, but people then would complain that they are typical totalitarian nazis

It will do though only the top few days here would be covered by any of that backlog.

The good news is Manchester had worse numbers than that a couple of months ago and it got them down pretty fast. These things do not last forever. They tend to peak around where you are then tail off.

Some people on here have just complained we aren’t in full lock down with everything closed and advocated we should all remain locked up from tomorrow.

Some real sad lonely people out there.

Classic fit to an exponential, 50% rise over seven days near constant from late Dec, doubling time ~12 days.

Shows what the virus is capable of.

I was in the M60 this morning ~10am, 20min queue past the Trafford Centre according to signs.

Perfect virus incubator in there, I'm guessing. (Could've been an accident of course)

More ridiculous is having Herefordshire in tier 1 (moved down), where you can do pretty much what you want, and either side of it the WM and S Wales in tier 3, an hour away by train, so you'll have train loads of people going there to get drunk over the next week.

Shape of things to come this side of the Irish Sea sadly

N Ireland planning a six week lockdown starting on Boxing Day but with the agreed Christmas bubbles left for the 5 days.

Will not be the last to do something like this.

Wont get drunk in a S Wales pub mate, they are banned from serving booze

Uncle Wally, Swansea start off on 10, 998 cases today with a Pop Score of 4453.

Tameside in GM is quite a close match to watch right now.

Tameside as of today has just 8 more cases than Swansea and its Pop Score (which measures cases per 100, 000 population so you can compare places of different sizes versus one another) is higher but not far off at 4859.

Its current weekly Pop though (same measure as the overall number but just across the past 7 days so it can go up or down based on how well things are going that week) is wildly different.

As you can see in the chart above the weekly Pop of Swansea is over 700. Tameside right now is not much over 100.

That is what you are aiming for. Though any fall is good news and if you can get below 300 you will be doing OK. You can see how Swansea's weekly Pop has tripled in a month. It can fall just as quickly so do not worry.

Going down is the key thing to look out for in the weekly pop. It means you are getting less cases over 7 days than you did over the previous 7 days.
