The hospital data is not good today either. North West starting to rise a little after the plateau as was inevitable now with case numbers rising.

And Greater Manchester today had its worst day in nearly a month. Manchester even back over 200 cases.

Sadly it will likely be so high by the time anyone wakes up and does anything about it that as London and the South start to come out of this wave the North West will be in lockdown until the Spring to control the third wave that was allowed to come here and not stopped swiftly because it might have been an unpopular decision.

God help us if we had had a leader unwilling to make unpopular decisions during the last war. And this is a war too just being viewed far too often as a popularity contest.

Astonishing figures, 1% of the population testing positive every week. The actual numbers infected are probably several times higher.

Dread to think what hospitalisations and deaths will follow.

Stay home blues.
1% testing positive every week added to the 20 million who have had it already, if that continues we will have herd immunity well before the vaccine is rolled out.

Try reading the post you idiot.
It’s a direct response of the covid restrictions. Fuck all to do with Brexit.
its too late now as you’ve already gone off on one, but chill the fuck out.

I know this may be a bit difficult for your superbrain to cope with but if you follow the post back it was about someone tweeting DHL and their response to a no deal Brexit and the person posting it was doing so to create a panic that wasn’t real.

Fucking hell:

COVID case rates above 1,000 cases per 100,000 people in eight areas

COVID-19 case rates are now above 1,000 cases per 100,000 people in eight local areas of the UK, the latest data shows.

Three of the areas are in Wales: Merthyr Tydfil, where the rate has jumped week-on-week from 926.6 to 1,299.6, which is the highest rate anywhere in the UK; Bridgend, up from 777.3 to 1,122.1; and Blaenau Gwent, where the rate has climbed from 698.5 to 1,006.3.

The other five areas are in England:

  • Thurrock (a huge jump from 435.9 to 1,178.7)
  • Havering (up from 547.1 to 1,123.5)
  • Epping Forest (up from 448.8 to 1,078.3)
  • Basildon (up from 650.6 to 1,055.0)
  • Medway (up from 641.2 to 1,037.1)
All figures are based on data published on Monday afternoon and are for the seven days to December 17.

Lockdown fetishists very disappointed by that press conference.

They needed fear, by Wednesday Boxing Day and beyond lockdown will be announced.

Guy I know has over the course of this pandemic been telling me how careful he is, carries hand sanitiser everywhere etc. Then in the same breath tells me he isn’t seeing anyone apart from all his work colleagues, oh and his mum and gran. Went to get tested because he claims he wanted to be safe so that he could enjoy Xmas. Didn’t want to tell him just because you are negative on a Monday doesn’t mean you are positive on a Friday. Anyway turns out he is positive but his girlfriend is negative.

It's a weird one though, isn't it. I know some who have contracted the virus that have been ok with it, yet would definitely be classed as vulnerable or unfit.
And my partner got it, as did his parents, yet I didn't.
It will be interesting to see the conclusions of long term studies.

Yeah absolutely, doesn't seem to be much rhyme or reason to it in certain cases.

Despite the grim reality now, its going to be fascinating to see why some were effected badly when others weren't.
I know some research has already been done into effect with different blood groups, and although the difference was minimal it was there.

This year has shown why so many Brits are so self deprecating about themselves. When someone says that we need to stop mocking ourselves and Britain and have more pride in who we are, kindly tell them to shut the fuck up. What an absolute disaster this whole thing has been. So fucking depressing.

If it seems I am anti Boris it isn't that. Happy to admit I voted for him. My brother actually knows him. And has been featured on a TV show with him. He can just be so frustrating at times.

I even do not hold it against him that I might have got Covid in the early days of the first wave very indirectly because of him. With quite a lot of maybes in that chain.

So if I do not blame him for that I can forgive him here too if he does the right thing.

You. By your calculations of 80k dying at the estimated mortality rate of 0.4% it works out at 20 million. Probably more as that won’t include the last 10 days or so.
Dont calculate , nobody has said twenty million have had it , you cant assume based on the death rate , no scientist has said twenty million or that herd immunity caused by infection will get us out of tnis , in fact they all say the vaccine will get us out of it

IFR is related to age structure of the population.
Estimates for the UK in the first wave was around 1%
