Unbelievably stupid leaving Merseyside where cases are rising fast as an oasis where of course absolutely nobody locked down in tier 3 will for one second ever consider visiting to do things they cannot do at home.

And after today they will be ten times as convinced they have a right to do this as they are being unfairly singled out.

Merseyside sadly will pay a heavy piece for being teacher's pet. If I still lived there I would be livid right now not celebrating a hollow success most will believe is real when it is an illusion being sold them by car salesman thinking.

Me too. When you can see the utter stupidity of what they are selling to the nation it makes this ten times worse.

Unhappily most people are going to see this when it is too late.

Though lets face it it was too late before he spoke.

I am utterly baffled why they are acting as if not being wrong and fessing up that they were is preferable to saving lives.

Everyone who understand this virus understands if you tip toe across a frozen pond you are going to fall in when the ice breaks and the further out you go the less chance you have of surviving.

There are some crumbs of comfort at the moment...
For example the weekly death toll (latest data 11 Dec) was 12.2K vs the 5 year average of 10.7K deaths for that same week of the year. At the peak in April there were 22K deaths per week vs the 10K figure for the 5 year average. So basically although the case numbers are high, the resulting deaths are not (fortunately).
Keep your hopes up, there will be millions more vaccinated over the next 2 months.

Thanks blues. I didn’t mean to alarm. I’ve been pretty upbeat throughout this whole thing but watching the news today has just properly bummed me out. Me and my family are healthy so that’s what matters :)
 
HS2 will go ahead if only to pulp all the trees into the paper that's going to be needed to be printed off after the public enquiry into this shit show
 
I don't like the sound of this new strain of the virus found in South Africa, only days after the introduction of Tier 4 over here.

I don't like Hancock but have to admit that I would hate to be in his position, he does seen genuine in his concern about these mutations.

I would have felt a little better if they had put the whole country in Tier 4, the fact that they are already adding areas to the list produced just days ago proves how bad this is.

We're ten months into this thing and know that that statement would only matter if they were only affecting themselves. They're not. We also know most people actually don't have something resembling a functioning, empathetic brain in their head so they will willingly harm themselves and likely others too if we let them. So take that choice away from them for their own sake and everyone else's ffs.

The new mutation is "very different" to a fresh strain found in the UK, but both appear to be more transmissible, an expert says.

The measure is effectively a regional lockdown and will come into force on Boxing Day in:

Tier four

  • Sussex
  • Oxfordshire
  • Suffolk
  • Norfolk
  • Cambridgeshire
  • Parts of Essex currently not in Tier 4
  • Waverley in Surrey
  • Hampshire (apart from the New Forest)
 
Areas going into Tier 3 are:

  • Bristol
  • Gloucestershire
  • Somerset
  • Swindon
  • Isle of Wight
  • The New Forest
  • Northamptonshire
  • Cheshire
  • Warrington
And places to be moved into Tier 2 are:

  • Cornwall
  • Herefordshire
