With most going up, Tier 3 obviously isn’t really working as a policy. I’m not sure if most are wearing masks and distancing, how it’s continuing to rise, other than the variation is here and it’s spreading in shops via that.

Well there is schools too, but it will prove how impactful they are over the next 3 weeks.
TIer 3 is better than tier 2 but the fact they needed to create what is in effect lockdown but called it tier 4 tells you it won't work against this new strain and its ability to spread fast.

It was always inevitable cases would rise in Winter - especially if we basically invite it through the door and offer it a brandy over Christmas.

But with these two new strains likely becoming the dominant ones in coming weeks everything we do now to slow it down saves lives and days extra we will otherwise have to lock down the nation when we finally get there - as we will - just way too late as has become a disturbing pattern in the past 9 months.

Perhaps the areas where the numbers are spreading faster in GM are where the new strain is dominant, I wonder what we are doing to track its localised presence in real time given that those areas with it are obviously going to be in trouble very fast and need rapid intervention.

I had to go to the Trafford centre last night, so many people in their teens and early 20s with no mask on. All will be seeing their elders over Christmas the fucking idiots. Gutted I had to go really especially seeing so many with no masks or distance.

England hospital deaths not as bad as of late happily:

350 deaths - 44 from the NW Up from last week 340 but with more from NW then (46)

9 from East Lancashire the only significant number in NW. The usual locations had the bulk of deaths sadly - London, Kent, the East and Midlands.

Other regions totals other than NW 44 - Midlands 87, East England 64, South East 53, London 46 and Yorkshire 44

Age ranges of the deaths :- 20 - 39 (3), 40 - 59 (20) 60 - 79 (125) and 80 + (202)

England hospital deaths 3 wks v 2 wks v last wk v TODAY: Total / NW Total/ NW % of England Total

295 / 52 NW / 18%

289 / 48 NW / 17%

340 / 46 NW / 17%

350 / 44 NW / 13% TODAY

That looks a slow but steady fall in the NW.

The longer that lasts the better but as cases rise here deaths inevitably will follow by going up in the early weeks of 2021 unfortunately.

More on the vaccinations so far: 521, 594 in 13 days up to end of last Sunday. So you can guesstimate how many will have been done in the past 3 days.

366, 715 of the vaccinations given were to over 80s (that is 70.3% of the total).

In the first 7 days ONLY hospitals administered these at 60 sites, In the second 7 days a series of GP and other local health centre hubs were added - of which there were 423 of them in the UK operating last week.

My sister (thirties) was one of those at Trafford centre just a few weeks ago. She’s exactly the sort who is indifferent to the pandemic and generally doesn’t give a shit about others. She’s been visiting my parents frequently too over the last two weeks. Wouldn’t surprise me if one day I get a call that they’ve developed symptoms.

I’d be quite happy to see Lancs put into a tier 5. Might put my mind at ease.

I think a full nationwide lockdown needs to happen Boxing Day imo.

I know some want it sooner and to cancel Christmas Day but it’s too important to those who have been sheltering all year, and many would take the risk.

I think one day, whilst it will increase the rate and undoubtedly some people will unfortunately pass away, should be down to discretion.

We do need a strong lockdown immediately after though. Nothing should open January.

Scottish data:

43 deaths (up from last week)

1314 cases (again well up on last week)

At 5.3% positive.

Patients 1008 (down 23)

56 on ventilator icu (up 7)

Other Scottish data 138 care homes with outbreaks (13%)

Seven day rolling cases total 8549 - at 5.4% positive

Vaccinations to Sunday 20 Dec - 56, 676

Scotland will not publish data for next 4 days.

Saw the same at that shithole Meadowhall last week. Went in as a last resort for a late Xmas present. Not many under 25s with masks on, no real social distancing in place.

As you know I agree and have been saying so for weeks.

But I have given up hoping for sense to prevail.

And if it does you can bet they will call it anything else but a lockdown so as to pretend they are not doing what half the country wanted them to do a week or more ago. But something clever and different.

We might get told it is a Multi tier Measure or some such fancy alternative name so it does not look like they are backtracking.

Does not matter what they call it. Just do it.

Can I just say that I hope you all have a lovely Christmas. I've been checking this thread god knows how many times a day since this whole thing kicked off and it's been a wonderful source of information and debate. Thank you to all involved. I hope every single one of you gets a little peace and relaxation this christmas. Even to the people that I've no doubt pissed off and annoyed and fallen out with in this thread. Ha. Apologies, sincerely, to those people. I didn't mean to. Just life hey - it's very testing at the moment. It's been a horrible year where we've obsessed over death and illness and no one should have to live like that. We deserve a better year next year and ive got no doubt that we'll get it. Big love to you all and I hope you have a nice day and can make the most of it. As my mum said to me earlier, 'it is what it is'. Quite! Here's to next year, blues!x

Our long time friends who live in Bournemoth were hoping their daughter, who lives in Highbury and is a radiographer at the University College Hospital, could visit them for Christmas. Their hopes were dashed when London went into tier 4 , however they have informed us today that every cloud has a silver lining and she has just been given her first dose of the Covid Vaccine as a key worker. What a great Christmas present for all of them.

And a Merry Christmas to all my fellow Blues, love you all.

Tried to strike a bet with the local tin foil wearer on Sunday when he aired his new theory about this all being down to Prince Charles and the World Economic Forum driving this so-called New World Order and implying it’s always going to be like this from now on as they want to control us. Told him a tenner says that by next Christmas we’ll be pretty much back to normal. He didn’t take the bet. Saw him again on Tuesday, told him he was chatting bollocks, and said why not take the bet seeing as though he was so certain we’re being played? I even said the winner gets to donate it to charity. His excuses ranged from “I’m not a betting man” to “There might not be any money left in the world this time next year” (seriously!). For some reason, he wasn’t quite so ballsy for a change and didn’t seem to want to discuss things. Turns out that his mate of 40 years had had a go at him the night before before I piled in on the **** the following day!
