Stupendous!!!!This is a stupendously bad decision and I expect Cavani or United will challenge it in some way.
Being banned for 3 games and fined £100,000 for calling a friend with black hair, "blackie".
The FA can't decide that words with no racist meaning in a foreign language are racist because they look or sound like a racist word in English.
It’s the world we live in now. This feels really excessive. Especially the fine.
No complaints though.
It's a bad decision, but it is correct. The stupid FA has gone and changed its rules to stipulate that anyone guilty of racism is automatically to face a three game ban. They now have no option but to follow their own rule, no matter what the individual circumstances are. They have given themselves no leeway, no wiggle room.
Cavani did not mean to be racist, I have no doubt about that. (Neither did Bernardo). And I feel sorry for him on a personal level, because he now has this label hanging over him, and it will always be there.
It is football's governing body, The FA, that always legislates in haste.
Incidentally, I also think United themselves are more culpable than Cavani here. They knew the new rules. They knew what happened to Bernardo and Alli, and they should be warning all incoming players of the pitfalls when engaging in social media. It is common practice in most companies to have induction courses for new employees. Diving and screaming is obviously on the agenda for United. They need to add racial awareness too.
It's the wrong decision because they've charged him with a racially aggravated social media post for something that is categorically not racial.
It's got nothing to do with their new rules, someone decided that a word in Spanish which has no abusive or racial connnotations was racist because it looks a bit like a racist word in English.
The media barely mentioned it, the day after. He should have been banned for violent conduct against Everton anyway.
Now tell us how you really feel about the rag cunts?Bunch of arrogant, condescending, egotistical twats - hope things go tits up for them in 2021.
It's a not a fine. This feels really excessive. Especially the fine.
No complaints though.
Bernard wouldn’t have let the rag in, probably nick his line though.Just heard he's on at the Embassy club next weekend
They pretty much set the precedent didn’t they with Bernardo!Neither Bernie nor Cavani should have been banned.
But good to see some consistency, even when United is involved
As they’d recently stated that any racist expressions/utterances would carry a three-game ban, they had little choice, but to impose such a ban on Cavani. It’s the world we live in now.
while I don’t think he’s even slightly racist, football is trying (apparently) to kick all forms of racism out of football.
they can’t let something like this slip as it dilutes their message.
They had to act.
They completely ignored the context of Bernardo's tweet to Big Ben, so why would they start now?I know it's the scum but that's an absolute farce. The second you start ignoring context it becomes very dangerous. Nobody but the most dim-witted of fuckwits amongst us would even think momentarily what Cavani said was in the slightest bit racist. I suspect they'll just issue a strongly worded statement reiterating his innocence and accept it but I hope united have their lawyers go to town on the FA
They set the precedent when banning Bernardo last season, so they had nowhere to go really except ban him, and as you say they’ve increased the punishment for such an “offence” in the meantime. As they’d recently stated that any racist expressions/utterances would carry a three-game ban, they had little choice, but to impose such a ban on Cavani.
Yes it is, but with Bernado the media went overboard to castigate him and hang him out to dry. With Cavani hardly a murmur from the twats, so I for one am not losing any sleep over the outcome.I know it's the scum but that's an absolute farce. The second you start ignoring context it becomes very dangerous. Nobody but the most dim-witted of fuckwits amongst us would even think momentarily what Cavani said was in the slightest bit racist. How does it compare.
Let's have a look shall we!
Bernies ban - A week long, on the hour every hour report and condemnation of the tweet, various players brought into the studio to air their views, all negative of course, every live game was ignored and the tweet talked about as if bernie had killed someone.
Victor Anichobe? Wheeled out for one night only, got told to act shocked and disappointed, disappeared into thin air, boomf gone, never been invited back again.
Cavani ban - got reported a couple of times on sky sports news on the same day , and that was it. No guests, no ex players airing their condemnation, not even kick it out could be arsed saying anything. News just broke, presenter looked choked up reporting it, it'll be off the screens by teatime.
There's the difference.
