Better in the second half, but his all round game is just not good enough. He's far too indecisive and lacks a ruthlessness,he rarely fancies a 50/50 and his ability to hold up the ball is awful.

The killer instinct is missing.I think we can find better.
Agree, his all round game isn't good enough. Yes, he will chip in with goals and assists, but he is too unreliable when it matters.

I'm hoping the club are looking at better alternatives.

I thought he did well, mostly without the ball. Drew alot of fouls for free-kicks, in which we eventually converted one.

Think we're too harsh on him. If we add a top striker, defenders will be pulled away from him and he'll have more time, space & options. He's not the best finisher but we're not firing on all cylinders in attack. He'll get back to his best.

Good without the ball. Poor with the ball.

Not really what you want from a player who will probably be our highest paid after his new contract.

For me he struggles to take his man on when he's one-on-one. He's great at the one two's as his pace is electric but in terms of taking his man on I think he struggles.

Needs to improve.

Another game against United that just passed him by.

He was better than he has been at times this season, but it was still nowhere near a good performance.

Outpaced and outmuscled by Shaw more than once, lost the ball far too much when heading into the box, dithers when he should shoot... he was yards clear with an open shot at goal on his strong foot and by the time he shot (I think that’s what he was going to do, who knows?) he was brushed aside by a fat man who was nowhere near him when he should have actually taken the shot.

There isn’t much more time and space to be had in a football match than this:

How do you go from that to this unfolding:

And there was a similar one last night with the same kind of time and space in the box where he didn’t get a shot off. He was clean through on his strong foot and ended up on the floor after his dithering meant he was caught up.

Such an easy chip in second photo.. Lads more one footed than Dave

Or he should have took the ball across Kante onto his stronger foot where he either gets his shot away or Kante fouls him

He has quality, it is just that he will never eradicate those flaws in his game not now at his age unless something just clicks in his head.

He is great at instinctively scoring when it is a snap decision, but give him time (like the other night) when he has to decide it seems to fall apart. He did at least get the shot off against chelsea, but then another time (as has proved to he the case) the end product is wasted and a chance missed

Then we have his dribbling ability, again it is either good or bad, he has dunked his way round players before but there are times he just runs into the defender

Very frustrating but I still wouldn't sell him.

The quality is there and he is a big part of Peps machine.

Mahrez tho is the winger that needs replacing

His 1st touch on this was unusually excellent. However, in pic 1, Kante is back right to Sterling. By the time we get to pic 2, Kante should be either directly behind or back left of Sterling because Sterling has to cut across him. The killer instinct just isn't there for someone who is labelled world-class. That being said, I am hopeful that things are improving for him now that he is back on the right.

They both need replacing imo

I don't think Sterling is going anywhere. Pep loves him and for me, there are other positions that are a more pressing concern. Sterling can be very frustrating but overall is a positive for the team, especially if we can get him scoring again. Mahrez is frustrating and turd.

Genuine question..

Who would you go for.....We have Torres who will no doubt kick on next season.

Mahrez we can definitely upgrade on. Not sure of any other out and out wingers available unless we go Pep leftfield again like we did with Torres
No idea who is available.

Mahrez is a great player playing in the wrong team
Sterling is simply too inconsistent, and whilst many say its just a dip in form - is it?

At the end of the day, all we have is our opinions, the club are the ones who will decide their futures

I’d sell Mahrez and Sterling and buy one top class striker. Haalland? Martinez? Who knows?

Jesus would then become a wide forward for me.

The options up front would be Agüero or the new signing
The options of the left would be Jesus or Foden
The options on the right would be Bernardo or Torres.

Obviously with some fluidity with injuries, rotation and suspensions as Jesus can play as a #9 if we needed him to; Foden and Bernardo can play in midfield; and Jesus Foden Bernardo and Torres can play on either side.

Then there’s the slight possibility of Messi n’all. A new striker and Messi in on a free; Mahrez and Sterling out.

People often think of this as a negative, “Sterling has given us so much”, but then so did Edin Džeko, Joe Hart, Nigel de Jong, Carlos Tevez and many more, all sold when they weren’t at the end of their careers. Sometimes it just becomes time for something new, and I think that time is this Summer with Sterling and Mahrez.

He's almost literally an ever present constant in the team. There's going to be a reason or two for it.
Because he's a good player, but for the reasons stated previously, that doesn't mean we can't improve on him....and i genuinely believe there are players out there who will make this team better.
