President Trump

True enough.

I am not suggesting however that he should not be drummed out of office. Merely that there is no obvious solution.

Unfortunately the "election has been stolen from us" genie is out of the bottle and now not even a Trump statement that he fully accepts that the election was fair and just and that he lost - not that we'd ever get such a statement - would do it. The nutjobs would simply conclude he'd been coerced into making such a statement.

No, unfortunately, he's drummed into them that the election has been stolen from them and they are too nutty to comprehend otherwise.
The nut jobs already feel betrayed by Trump. Because he incited them and indicated (in their braincell) he’d be walking with them to the Capitol... and then didn’t.
when even the Trumpistas are turning on Trump (for different reasons to most), you know some really bad stuff is in the offing

It won't in Texas. That is home soil for the insurrectionists. He has gone there for a reason. He will double down on his crazy BS - claim he will never concede etc. We will have to see what he says about the 6th but i dont expect much. A few muted lines about not supporting violence (on the advice of lawyers in respect of what has and might happen).

But after that I think he is done.
I hope you're right, but we'll see. I don't think Trump will be able to hold his tongue.

An example of lessons learned. Get ahead of any shit like this. Once he won the election in 16 twitter were screwed in terms of banning him. As of right now every institution will be making moves to ensure they are in no way associated with him going forward.
Yeah absolutely, I just find it funny that Pinterest have waded in.

It’s like him being banned from Mumsnet.

There was a 10 year gap between Hitler's failed coup attempt of 1923 and him taking power in 1933.

The next presidential election is 4 years away. If he isn't barred from standing, and his criminal children and enablers aren't dealt with this will be the end of the USA as we know it.
Can't see Trump writing the equivalent of Mein Kampf with a sharpie if he gets banged up though. He might do a bit of colouring if he's given some crayons.

Well his lies (or the lies of his crazy followers that he likes to adopt) are falling in on him. The Trump base was 100% convinced that on the 6th a load of evidence would be presented to Congress, confirming not just that the election was rigged but all sorts of other crazy shit (lots of pedo business etc), and the proceedings would transform in to some sort of court drama. The final act being various Dems being led out in handcuffs to be executed on the steps in front of their eyes.

When it transpired that Mike Pence was not going to go along with that plan the base turned on him - hence them calling for his execution. So how does Trump square with his base that he is still working with Pence? And if he does try to fire them up and there is more violence how much do Pence and Co take before they push the button on the 25th.

His base will 100% completely turn on him.

The jig is up and there’s nowhere left for him to go.

They’re too revved up to stop now and once they know he’s lied to them it’s going to be ugly.

Yeah i was reading a load of these revelations for the past few months on the Manchester anti-lockdown leader, Paul Boys, social media.

he’s still publishing crap, along with (previously mentioned awhile ago):
Obama being arrested
pelosi being arrested
Leyline conjunctions
Vaccine nanobots
Crystal healing
paedophile conspiritors being taken down by trump
Military poised to arrest everyone anti-trump
...and many many more qanon/whacko ideas

the most telling thing is on his Instagram bio
’future leader of the free world’

No chance mate. Nil, none, nada.

He may no longer have majority support amongst democrats but the nut-job contingent are huge in number, and these people are completely bonkers and beyond reasoning with. They genuinely believe the election has been stolen from them and that they are in their rights to fight for "what is right" and that they "want our country back".

There is no way these people are just going to say "hey ho, happy days, we lost fair and square, never mind". Trump is their hero and there is NOTHING that will change their minds about that. Nothing.

This is the problem - they are 100% convinced not just on election fraud but all sorts of other crazy BS. They get told incessantly that its all coming to a head and teh evidnce is coming - teh arrests are coming - the army will take over etc. They expect Trump to lead this and in the next 10 days it will all fall down.

How will they react?

I have no idea what Trump is going to say in Texas but its mostly likely going to more of the same stock ranting that he always delivers. If anything I expect him to tone down on the violence rhetoric but at best with Trump you get a mixed message. I have zero doubt he will call the election rigged, beyond that I dont no. And of course he has no hope to offer as he has accepted Biden will be sworn in. If he announces a run for office in 2024 it will not go down well given the expectation as above, they want blood - not a campaign starting in 3 years time.

What happens when he inevitably has to drop the cause though?

This is when I think they turn on him.

What are the chances of impeachment stopping 2024 for him?

I can't see them turning on him, mate. He's their leader and being their leader is all he is going to have left, so he will encourage it. He's a maniac but he knows how to dog whistle. He united the thick and the thugs into a cohesive unit , people like that need a figurehead and they are either too stupid or immoral to care about his faults. It's the perfect yin and yang.

Maybe you’re right I’m not claiming to know what will happen.

I just get a feeling he might be being backed into a corner and his rabid support will want him to a lead a revolution he’s not up for doing.

Nope. I'm saying that the actions of his lunatic supporters would be ramped up if he were drummed out of office.

I can't believe anyone actually thinks like this.

"We shouldn't hold these people accountable for their crimes because they might do more crimes!!!!".

The reason these cunts thought they could storm the capitol is because their kind of violence has been excused and overlooked for so long. That's why that deranged woman though she could barge into a room guarded by armed secret service behind a barricade without getting shot. They thought there were no consequences because for too long there haven't been.

If his mob of domestic terrorists turn up and attack again, they will be met by the national guard and shit themselves. Most likely they've seen the videos of their fellow nutters getting arrested and stay home.

It seems clear cut legally - if Senate vote then he is done.

I believe the magic number is 17. That many GOP senators out of 50 to vote to 'remove'. I suspect the answer lies with Mitch and team and their strategists. It will as ever be a calculation in relation to their interest and not what is right or what the facts of the issue are. It will come down to Pros and Cons:-

Pro's
Trump out clears the road for other candidates (trump in the primary process was awful)
Draws a line so they can move on
Will help with many big Corp donors
Will help with any disaster PR that is likely to come out over the next 12 months (i.e. there will be revelations)

Con's
Pisses off the base
Splits the party as some will not follow the line and will look to stay aligned to the trump base
Splits conservative media
Trump will go scorched earth and actively work against the party (he has zero party affinity)

I have no idea where they will land on it. I think they are wrestling with all of the above.

A major thing is that the Trump base loves Jr., and he's even more extreme than his dad and big into Q.

If Trumpists and Republicans split, both will be unelectable. McConnell, Graham et al. would rather hold some power in a Trump/Qanon government than be in the minority as a sane Republican party.

I certainly agree with you that his "people" are not going away. My concern is that a smarter figurehead will emerge, probably with Trump's blessing, and they will retake power. Imagine if some real calculating despot with a sharp brain and the gift of the gab takes control of these people and starts grandstanding on the world stage?

Fuck me that’s a frightening concept.

I hope you’re wrong.
