"The best footballing team in the league," said former Scotland international Pat Nevin on BBC Radio 5 Live. "It's beautiful. Every time I walk into the Etihad I feel excited because they have brilliant players. They are a joy to watch."
He was a very skillful player in his own right and a thinking footballer in many respects.

The sheer stupidity of Ben Rumsby never fails to astound me.

Right...they could also do it after magliar has grappled them arms around neck to the ground at every corner, or when they stand arms linked in a defensive wall, or when that hateful prick robertson has thrust his smug face in theirs,or everytime someone spits etc.

Lets not forget that during the first lockdown when footy was halted and dippers had to "wait" to be awarded the title, people were saying how its return would "lift" the nation despite the risks. Lets see if they have the same attitude if/when we look like winning the title race.

Actually seems disrespectful and stupid to even be discussing these matters in such times, but lets face it, they are weaponising this pandemic to attack "certain parts" of football which suits a certain narrative. If it really is putting lives at risk then pause the season again until safe, but dont just demonize a couple of clubs in pirsuit of proportioning blame, it just isnt fair.

A change of mindset by whom? I watched last night as players and coaching staff went through a rigmarole of fist and elbow touching and then hugged somone close up, almost cheek to cheek. Barmy. I don't see why a replacement for a handshake is necessary. Words can easily suffice in these circumstances.
I think the government should have laid down what is or is not permissible rather than being vague about everything.
Ah, Mike, too many people inhabit this island whose first response would be "Yer not telling me WTF I can do or not do!" And therein lies the problem.

Nice piece of objective reporting by the times, the same respected newspaper where Matthew Syed composed the following headline:

‘Is it fair to put lives at risk for football? On balance, yes’

So which view is it? Does the view depend on which colour shirt the team wears?

Yeah, and they all then run the risk of getting a booking if they lift it just a bit too much for the refs liking, coz we all know how they love to book city players at every opportunity!

How many other managers have been asked to comment on their own players hugging?
I suspect most will look at the flak that Pep got and perhaps give a different answer than if they were asked two days ago.
what is the problem. Rugby union going ahead including scrummaging which is a 16 man cuddle with 2 scrums half’s at it.

It’s fucking bollocks, we social distance at the supermarket because we’re not tested. The footballers are.

Up until Sunday a different sort of football was happening every day which involves sixteen hefty blokes locked in a tight embrace for half the game. Suddenly a few seconds of close contact is a disgraceful exhibition deserving of universal condemnation unless those concerned have red shirts on

I would hazard a guess that Ben Rumsby has never attended a football match in his life ( other than a handful of games he has been paid by his employer to attend ).

I’m sure he has a pretty good degree in journalism but hasn’t got a clue about football.

That’s why the zebras hugging hardly got a mention

they don't want players to touch, then ban football, they touch each other for 90mins, its a fucking farce this don't touch campaign , its for appearances only, they are only interested in the money , players aren't going out of their way to break rules ,its a reaction and like pep said its so natural it might not be able to be stopped
A caller on Radio 5 today said what about rugby players going into a scrum? They are effectively doing the same as footballers hugging after a goal but Rugby doesn't get much bad press.

I think it was the PM who said it was being left to individuals use their common sense to act on the rules.

And THEREIN lie several problems l dont need to recite.

But l suppose we don't do so bad compared with the dirty big country on t'other side of the Atlantic.
