Phil Spector

An absolute crackpot but musically he was top class. I'm sure he was a thoroughly unpleasant individual but his musical influence was huge, no question about it.

I love the "wall of sound" sound and it had a huge impact on the music of the 60s. Just compare the sound of "You've lost that loving feelin" or "Be my baby" to other songs of the era. The Spector ones sound so rich and deep.

The wall of sound massively influenced Brian Wilson of the Beach Boys and inspired him to create Pet Sounds, one of the greatest albums of the 60s and beyond. Of course, Pet Sounds was an inspiration for Sgt Pepper. That's some legacy in itself.

Also, can you imagine the soundtrack to Christmas without his Christmas album? So many classic songs from that album which are played every year and, for me anyway, I never tire of hearing.

Love the Wall of Sound. Hate Phil Spector.

A nice bit of trivia for you all. The last record Phil Spector produced was by...

Chorley's Starsailor.
Interesting.
Saw them supporting the Police at the Arena about 13 years ago.
I'll remember him best for producing the Ramones 5th album
