Apparently if stock is there, and not been taken up by the priority list it has to be used up before it expires. The message from NHS/Goverment is "NO VACCINE GOES TO WASTE", so that's why your seeing some groups get it before others. Papers try to create dramatic headlines like "Student gets jab beore medic" but it's not always true. It could be transporting the vaccine to where the medic is or vice versa might cause vaccine to expire.
Imagine all the no-shows/anti-vaxers/mental health issues/infirm/no longer living at address etc etc etc. Vaccine supply will keep coming in but for people that don't show up it cannot be kept, it gets used even if it means grabbing a 20 year old who's come in for routine appt, and offering that jab in their arm
The only part of your post I would question is the total number of vaccinations this time next week. This time next week we will be at our around 9 million vaccines and I hope cases down 20 percent again week on week to maybe 23k a day? Would take that now as progress. Also one week more done of this very tough winter and lockdown. January pretty much done and we have somehow got through it.
I am staying positive all the way. Even if I have to be like the violinists on the titanic.
Not quite sure what that has to do with the state of our prisons and people not being arsed about the man who murdered Lee Rigby.
anyone got any good and reassuring links/articles re the vaccine?
my wife's family, big family, is 50/50, with half the family fine with having the jab and half of them really reticent and worried, purely because they perceive it as new, or 'untested' or 'experimental'. Actual scientific papers wont work here, and apparently i'm not getting through to them - any good resources out there?
one more - one of them is breastfeeding, i assume no real trials were done on breastfeeding, as well as pregnant women?

There's a covid faq website being run in response to covid denial

I'm not aware of anything on breastfeeding.
You should follow the advice on the shielding letter.I am shielding but before I started shielding we were told to have the fortnightly 'flow test'. Before starting the next fortnight of work , than test again. So have a flow test ever fortnight.
The two lads have been texting me be cause they have been told to come into work and go from work to get the test and than come back to work to wait for the results.
They think for the sake of an hour of work they should only come into work once the results are known.
This to us makes sence, but it doesnt to our line manager. All we have asked for is a policy so we know what to do. How hard can it be to have a policy for 6 people ?
As an ex manager this sort of incompetence really winds me up, its not rocket science. For the sake of peoples health waiting for the results !. We were told to take the tests in work time so every booked within the first half hour of work thinking come in once the results are back ( normally within 30 minutes ).
This team like lots of others have been working hard all the way through surely being an hour late once a fortnight shouldnt be a problem for the managers in there nice warm safe houses !
It now appears that only the young lads are going for the flow test and the two older members of the team arent having them done ! So only 50% are being tested. I suggest that the lads only work with each as they dont know if the older members safe to be around. This is madness only half the team getting tested fortnightly.
On a side note I have just been taken of the cancer pathway by the hospital which is great , but not sure if that means I have to stop shielding now. Or if I still shield because of the chemotherapy cream I used on my head and the skin cancer cut out of my head a few months ago ! . But I am of the cancer pathway for my back passage I still have to go back for a full colonoscopy to check it all, so of the rapid pathway. ! I tried ringing my docs but they are so busy, my missus just says go by the government letter and shield till the 21st feb you deserve a rest. I might but so do lots of others.
That how well we protect prisoners from COVID reflects how civilised we are as a society.
Well I know someone whose wife is a prison officer. All the inmates in her prison have been vaccinated. She is still waiting for hers. That how well we protect prisoners from COVID reflects how civilised we are as a society.
Well well well. Who'd have thunk it?
Prisons are breeding grounds whenever there is a pandemic, it may not necessarily be that they haven’t been sufficiently protected. If we put them in isolation then people would be complaining about their human rights to have human interaction. That how well we protect prisoners from COVID reflects how civilised we are as a society.

This is very unlike you but I reckon you have under-estimated as I reckon we will have exceeded 10 million doses. This is based on an average of 500k a day and I'm confident we will do better than that. More sites are being added all the time and the existing ones are getter faster as they iron out snags and get more organised.
I also reckon we will finish all vaccinations far quicker than being forecast as vaccine supply increases in the coming weeks. This definitely applies if the Johnson & Johnson one shot vaccine gains approval early next month as expected. This will be the one for the younger age groups.
She should ask her doctor for advice if she is breastfeedingthanks that's quite a good one.
i'm going to keep looking for resources that put it in context with other vaccines, if i can find anything.
re breastfeeding, the only thing i can really see is the gov advice, which is a bit watery actually so i can empathise with her reticence.
You're right, no trials were done on pregnant women or ones who were breastfeeding afaik. The breastfeeding one is basically a risk v reward question and they've said to speak to your doctor.anyone got any good and reassuring links/articles re the vaccine?
