Offside rule changed after Cancelo's goal against WBA

I thought she raised her flag when Bernardo seemed to be trapped on the byline with nowhere to go so no immediate chance of a goal being scored. But by the time the ref saw the flag the Baggies defence had relaxed enough for Bernardo to find Cancelo so he was given the chance to get his shot away just in case. Pre VAR the flag would have gone up straight away, long before there was any prospect of a goal being scored and nobody would have bothered to measure the centimetres. Despite it benefiting us for once VAR really is a pain in the arse.
Kavanagh was looking right at her. Also they are both miked up as well. But the ref was in the right, he played it exactly as they have been told.

There's nothing to change. Perfectly good goal. The lino should of done her job properly and waited until the phase of play was over then flagged. It's her that caused the controversy by flagging early. We didn't gain an advantage either as not one West Brom player stopped when the flag was raised.
About four of them stopped, and that’s who’s at fault, the West Brom players. One stopped still while the ball was going passed him and pointed to the lino as Cancelo got the ball behind him. He then turned around and with about 10% effort went to close (but didn’t) Cancelo down who then scored.

Oi, footballers, remember what you were told when you were a little nipper every week at training for you local Under 8s team - “play to the whistle” - ? Well that still applies now at big boys football!

I agree, play to the whistle, but at least one West Brom player stopped in the box and looked over the the linesperson when he should have been closing down Cancello.

New law:

Whenever City are in the opposition half, flag for offside and the referee must blow up immediately.

Agree it was her fault, but I thought we definitely got an advantage out of it. It seemed at least one of their players, if not 2 looked like they stopped & didn’t go to close Cancelo down.

Not according to BFS in his interview with the BBC !
He referred to it as " don't give me all that play to the whistle rubbish" and said that players naturally stop when the flag goes up.
So what ? He's played the game at a high level (not him personally, but the games he's played in. Lol.) and he knows full well that if there's no whistle then there's no excuse for stopping. If you do so then you risk the consequences - he knows it, we all know it.

I know the thread title is tongue in cheek, but the rules should come under scrutiny when injustices occur. However, this want an injustice.

West Brom should have played until they heard the whistle. Simple as that. It's no use blaming anyone else over this.

I don't get the clamour for a change in rules following the Aston Villa opener. It's not as though that scenario happens often. So Villa felt a bit cheated. Tough. Mings should have dealt with the ball better. We certainly did nothing wrong.

But this concept of changing the laws or the interpretations, whenever a team feels aggrieved at a decision is wrong. It smacks of legislating on the hoof.

Notice the cries of injustice are only ever heard when we benefit from the perceived error. These calls aren't made for any other teams, as far as I recall.

Remember the goal we scored against Spurs last season, when Jesus scored after the ball had brushed against Fernandinho's arm? If ever there was an unfair ruling, it was that one. Where were the calls for law clarification on that occasion?

but they would measure centimetres if one of the history teams thats why in this mess in first place because once hard done by it would replayed not only in show but repeated over n over on ssn channel outrage cast so VAR introduced

Players stoping play like they did, goes hand in hand with players waving their arms in the air when they believe someone is offside. Can't stand it, carry on playing, and if youre right then VAR will prove it.

The ref looked so frustrated when he was adjudicating over whether the goal was offside or not. I think he was pissed off that the lino made such a massive fuckup.

Imagine if the boot was on the other foot, and WBA scored that goal against us. Pretty sure fat Sam would be saying 'city should av played to the whistle'.

So the pattern here is every time man city wins the match fa will change laws as they go along .
Just give the title to rags . End of it
