Offside rule changed after Cancelo's goal against WBA

It was the linesman’s fault but no one is allowed to criticise because it’s a linesmanwoman

You're right 100% and when VAR was brought in, I assumed refs would be miked up as they are in Rugby and Cricket and there would be transparency and open dialogue.
How wrong was I and the question is why there is so much secrecy in the decision making process between the whistling wankers and their mates at Stockley Park?
It’s all conjecture as to why it’s not transparent.

I’d guess it’s one of 2 reasons, first one being so that officials can manipulate decisions & certain outcomes, which there is no current direct proof of (Mark Halsey isn’t direct proof, but not sure why he’d lie?) although bent referring isn’t anything new.

Or football officials in every country around the world don’t know the laws of the game as proven by that clown Peter **** face Walton.

Or maybe a bit of both? I doubt any of us will ever know the truth & to be honest, if they do make it transparent, I won’t be arsed as to why it previously wasn’t.

Basically I think VAR is damaging the game the way it’s delivered & needs to be be fixed for the good of the game

She fucked up, every lino in history has fucked up... Luckily the ref knew what he was doing, no harm done, it should stop any future fuck ups of a similar nature, she certainly won’t fuck up like that again... End of thread innit??

Unless of course they change the rules, then she might fuck up again ...

The number of match going fans I've spoken to pre-lockdown that have become disillusioned with football who are seriously considering walking away because of the lack of transparency with VAR is very telling.

I can't think of any valid reason for the implementation of VAR in this way other than incompetence or corruption.

If fans, players and managers could hear the rationale behind every decision it will cut out most of the confusion, frustration and anger overnight.

You would still get a few dissenting voices and disagreements but at least you get transparency.

You would still get clowns like Dean Smith, Walton and Camelgob not knowing the rules of a sport they are handsomely paid to be involved in but it's obvious from the Villa and WBA games that the officials are up to speed with the laws and it may also stop said clowns from embarrassing themselves again in public.

Like you said previously it's win win.

Thats quite a long post mate, going sadly...nowhere/round in circles.

The simple answer is......Corruption.
Dont be afraid to call it out.
Fear fuels the corruption.

Lol. It is indeed one possible answer as the directive for lack of transparency has come from FIFA, & we all know their history.

However, there is the other option that it is the complete incompetency of officials which the footballing authorities want to hide.

Either way, I don’t really care as long as they fix it :)

I wish they wud fix it.wheres Jim?
Ooops.

There's nothing to change. Perfectly good goal. The lino should of done her job properly and waited until the phase of play was over then flagged. It's her that caused the controversy by flagging early. We didn't gain an advantage either as not one West Brom player stopped when the flag was raised.
The commentators at NBC were clearly watching another game as they insisted that the West Brom defence and keeper all stopped, made a brew, had a fag, and played a game of scrabble in between the flag going up and Cancelo scoring.

I'm expecting the rule about contact with the goalkeeper to change by the weekend.....it's going to be like the old days where you could just barge the goalie into the net!

Its a stupid rule, like the Rodri incident, but its a rule. Its been there for a while. Referees visit clubs at the begining of each season to explain to players any changes. If they don't know, then they are at fault and Managers that dont make sure they know, too. (and pundits and commentors too)

Of course, there is a thread developing here - teams that play in sky blue. 'Yes, I accept its in the rules, but its wrong'...' Who the feck are you? Tell you what - go through all the rules now and tell us what you think is wrong and we can change them - no you can't be arsed or interested until it suits your bias. Do one.

And i'd have been happy with that.
The controversy is precisely because of var and its ridiculous implementation.

No, not at all. The controversy is because Sian Massey-Ellis raised her flag when she absolutely, categorically should not have done. It was a brain-fart and 99 times out of 100 the flag would have stayed down there until the move had come to an end, which is what the linespeople have been clearly instructed to do. VAR isn't the culprit in this one, just good old human error.

Agree it was her fault, but I thought we definitely got an advantage out of it. It seemed at least one of their players, if not 2 looked like they stopped & didn’t go to close Cancelo down.
That's their problem- I haven't played football since I was ten and even I remember play to the whistle. The linesman doesn't have the authority to stop the game- only the referee.

Completely agree mate. Doesn’t negate the fact that we got an advantage from it tho

And your point is what? Are you saying we should have stopped too? Imo it’s tough shit, if you don’t know the rules you don’t deserve anything, same as Villa

And why should she not have raised her flag immediately? Why are they 'instructed' to wait and see what happens?
