I'm sorry but you really need to look in the mirror. Just looking at some of your other posts shows you have no clue that along with your grasp of the English language which for want of a better word is retarded.

If you go down to 10 men in the 2nd minute having played a game every 3 days for the last 4 months then you are more likely to see a result like that. You can use this to support your ludicrous theories all you like but anyone who has ever kicked a football around or consistently watched their team will know different, which clearly isn't you.

Thanks for the entertainment all the same.

So lets just spell this out.

You think that no one has won 9-0 in Spain for 60 years or so, because no one in La Liga has ever had an early red card in the middle of a congested season.

And you think I'm the one with a ludicrous theory?

Very ironic to criticise someone's English when you can't find a better word than "retarded".

Also worth noting there are plenty of people on here who have English as a second language, so it's out of order laying into people like this.

Sid Lowe and Phil Kitromilides discussed the El Mundo Messi exclusive on their podcast and it wasn't just the front page, there were 7 separate, long articles in the paper about the contract and Messi and they apparently went way beyond "How crazy is it that one man can be paid so much" type stuff - they actually pinned the blame for all of Barcelona's financial problems on Messi, really tried to portray him as the bad guy at the heart of the Barca decline.

They also said that it went so far that it was incredibly transparent and there's been a pretty big backlash against it.

Bloody hell. Just when you assume the levels of incompetence at Barca can't get any worse?

No wonder Messi is pissed.

It does make me laugh the hypocrisy behind this smear, however?

Messi earns all this ridiculous money and is now painted responsible for their financial meltdown, yet they were quite happy to prevent him quitting last summer for free and remain on the hook for another £100m plus in commitments towards him.

Unless the Saudis come forward, I genuinely believe Barca won't be relevant at the top of the game for at least a decade.

They might have to change their entire constitution to combat that scenario.

It does feel like the era of the Spanish dominance in Europe has finished and will be affirmed when Messi leaves in the summer.

Maybe this is the decade where we rise in Europe to match our rise in the PL over the last decade. Apart from Bayern, it’s hard to see much stopping us.

Great posts by Tolmie & BillyShears on the previous page; thanks guys.

I was thinking Messi (with what happened at the end of 'last season') was nailed on to come to City, with a double contract taking him to NYC afterward and to hook up with his best buddy - our top scorer, for a season or two..

.. then I heard about Barca thinking of poaching Aguero on a free, and I started to wonder?

I don't know which way things will pan out, but Messi's contract disclosure intrigues, and must have been leaked from the inside.

Hmm...

?

Sergio is currently chatting a lot of shit about Barca and other clubs to a few people.

PSG, possibly, but his nose is out of joint and needing to talk up his options because City are still waiting to discuss new terms.

Sergio, as a free transfer?

With the signing fee and commensurate wages, I doubt Barca could even afford the commission to his dad.

I actually think Sergio would be best suited to Italy at this stage of his career, but I don't anticipate City not making him an offer of some description based on his legendary status at the club.

It might be a few quid less, even, but Sergio can afford to take the hit!!

Reasons to sign him:

1. Messi on the decline is miles better than David Silva was at his peak.
2. One of the best finishers in the history of football. With the chances we create and miss this would be of great need.
3. Brilliant left footed set pieces.
4. His name will help attract big name signings to the club. “Hey Haaland, how do you feel about playing with Messi next season?”
5. All our sponsorships will increase as a result of his association with our football club.
6. Our fan base would increase worldwide as a result of his association with our football club.
7. Fans put off attending games due to the virus getting them out of the habit will instead be hot wheeling back to the stadium.
8. He’s still one of the best players in the world even at 33.
9. Teams will be shit scared of us and we’ll be the biggest draw in football for opposition fans.
10. Our standing as a club will be bigger than ever and more people than ever will want to come to our games.

I think you are maybe doing Dave a massive disservice, perhaps?

Peak Dave was incredible, certainly better than the acclaim he did get on the world stage.

Messi is a couple notches below incredible these days, and that's from somebody who still believes I have only seen Maradona compare.

I'd take that!

I just finished reading The Panama Papers and there’s an entire chapter devoted to Messi and Jorge’s tax dodging. They use a very, very fishy firm to squirrel money away.
If we are going to do this, they better be squeaky clean because they have no idea how the gutter press will come after them out of a hatred for us.

We don't need to squirrel it, I'm sure we can sort an account out here https://www.bankfab.com/en-ae/personal

Last season Messi scored more goals than Aguero has done in most seasons he’s played for us. He also got more assists than De Bruyne. I actually think it’s Messi who is underrated as bizarre as it sounds.

Devil's advocate.

Give Kun a new deal or sign Messi?

(you can't have both)

I know what you mean, which is why we need to see it up close for ourselves, just for selfish reasons!!

Perhaps the better comparison or question to pose is how many more titles we would have had if Messi had played for us for the last ten years?

I suspect it would have been quite a few more.

Not to denigrate anyone.

Haha, that's a good one. I'd thank Sergio for all he has done and set him free.

I think more people would be more uncomfortable with it because there would be no big send off like there wasn't for Dave?

It would be fascinating to know how much Messi would need Sergio here, I suspect he would like him to be, even for a year to help him settle?

Sergio injuries remain the elephant in the room.

I think the legends will come back for a send off regardless.

In terms of Messi/Kun - I don't think his move will depend upon Kun remaining. Think the draw for Leo is clearly Pep and the chance to once again shine on the biggest stage in a winning team.

Of course, mate, but Messi and Sergio are pals for obvious reasons, also, they have similar likes and traits?

Both are intensely private and Sergio does appear to be lonely in the interviews he has given when his son Benjamin isn't staying with him?

Transitioning from Barcelona to Manchester would be a massive challenge for Messi, having lined nowhere else for decades, all the stuff that brilliant city offers.

Whilst Pep could transition easier because he is the manager and is constantly preoccupied with team affairs, a player like Messi would need to have an ally like Sergio, perhaps?

It will be a circus with fanboys and paps congregating each day he leaves his Cheshire compound.

I'd actually expect Mahrez and his own massive wages to be in the firing line also, certainly with Messi needing to come in off the right and potential for a transfer fee to offset Grealish.

We need to offload Mahrez, Mendy and replace Carson with an u21 if we want to sign a LB, Messi, Striker and keep Fernandinho and Aguero.

That's going to be a tough ask. Mahrez isn't playing great and I thought PSG might fancy him with Draxler and Di Maria leaving, but Pochettino isn't the kind of coach who'd want Mahrez.

Mendy...where to start. We might end up paying most of his wages like Adebayor, or just leaving him out of the squad like Nasri.

I don’t think Messi coming depends on Aguero. My view is a goal calculation. If we get Messi would the squad have enough goals with Messi, Aguero and Jesus, or would we still need a new striker too. My guess would be we would go with those 3 and replace Aguero and maybe Messi too in 2022.
If on the other hand we didn’t get Messi, Aguero and Jesus wouldn’t be enough reliable goals and we would replace Aguero this summer with a new striker.
