New striker?

Not sure our exercise in the finances surrounding Messi was us actually after Messi the player, more a case of ` Striker wanted only the best need apply`
Giroud would have been my short term fix, yep a plan B so we could see if Pep can play it.

messi was all our eggs in one basket simply all or nothing ? i don't think city had any other irons in the fire for strikers
because of aguero and jesus still being at the club

Haaland has to be our first choice I just hope we don’t pussy foot about and end up with some 4th choice striker from Lazio or something.

You can’t fuck about when it comes to the guy who is going to score your goals.

top draw ready made striker please ? forget up and coming in the next 2 or 3 years just get the best out there
money no object we have a big budget. even if we have to pay over the odds the city squad needs a striker or 2 for the next 5 years or more with aguero at the end of is career

Exactly. It’s Haaland. He’s young and he’s ready now.

So during Pep's press conference he mentioned that signing a striker wouldn't solve our problems and he'd be right.

This season we've really suffered from a drop in chance creation. If I had to guess, that'd be probably because of the fact we're playing more conservatively and pressing less, which means defending teams are more able to position themselves to deal with our attacks (something to be wary of tonight). Our forwards are playing deeper than ever and it all seems like a plan to preserve counter attacking immunity as well as spring fast transitions in the final third. In terms of taking chances, yeah we're lacking a clinical edge but it's only really KDB that's been statistically below par to a significant degree, and signing a striker isn't going to make him score his chances or improve our creativity.

As a result, we've become more reliant on patient buildup (this is where Rodri and Stones help), smart movement (false 9s), and midfield creativity (KDB, Cancelo, Gundogan, Mahrez, Foden). The good news is that we're moving towards a better level with every game. Our movement is increasingly intelligent and we look more confident in possession than in a long time. Our chance creation is as a trend on the up too.

I think once by the end of the season, injuries permitting, we're going to be back to our goalscoring best. Current underachievers by their standards (Sterling, Jesus, and Mahrez) are all going to be as prolific as they were and we're going to feel like we need a forward even less.

However we'd still benefit from a new striker. I don't for one second believe that the need is as urgent as many seem to think but having a new player to freshen things up would never go amiss. There's also the lingering Aguero cloud that needs addressing. It's important that whoever we sign is both high quality (obviously) and of a different style to whatever we currently have/will have, as it gives Pep the most tactical control/flexibility. Haaland as an out and out goalscorer would fit the bill, but I'm sure if need be there are other options available.

Jesus + money for Haaland. Can´t imagine how many goals we would score with a superb striker up front and someone better playing instead of Mahrez.

I’d definitely keep Jesus, but agree about how many goals we’d get with Haaland. Ideally we’d get Sancho back too, with those two young Dortmund players brought in we’d be set for years in attack.

I don’t know if he’s been mentioned before but watching the Villa game highlights last night I was very impressed with Ollie Watkins. From the little I saw he always appeared to find great positions, is never afraid to have a pop at goal and scored again.

He looks like a real talent.

Great young player

We can't afford to take a chance like that. It's Haaland/Mbappe or bust.

Would you be willing sign more of a false 9 or play Kev, Bernie or Gundo there if we got Mbappe? It’s a serious option, if Messi comes in he could play as a false 9 and Mbappe, Sterling, Phil, Torres and a Jesus playing as wide forwards.

Big risk city not bringing in a striker even if on loan. Aguero will take weeks to get match fit & may get injured again, we can not rely on Jesus & sterling is far from his best.

We are probably in one of the best positions to win the league, cups & champs league. But all of this could be in jeopardy without a striker to offer something different. We are relying on foden & gundy scoring at the minute.

As it stands city have one fit striker & I would class Jesus as a winger not even a striker.
The question is who could we have bought ? Costa was the only realistic prospect, and a poor one. We are all entitled to our views, wishes, hence the forum. But there is a bit of me that does think that maybe, players werent available, financial considerations, other issues that we as fans are not aware of.I suppose we all want Haaland,I really do, but if he breaks the wage structure, upsetting other well established players, we end up like Utd. Throw money at a problem and it does not work out..Sanchez,Falcao,Schweinsteiger to name but a few. Dias was probably a second or third option and look now. Without knowing the facts, we can dream, but that's all it is, a dream for us fans.I do trust Pep and the board to make the right decisions.

I'd cash in on Sterling and Mahrez keep Jesus as back up ,develop Torres and prepare a farewell statue for Serg.
Mahrez I get but Sterling's scored 55 in his last 3 seasons. Still has a 1 in 2 G&A when we've not been scoring much. Give him a proper striker to take the pressure off and his all-round game will get back to where it was.
