The sad thing is he knows he made mistakes in the past. He did an interview with an Irish podcast saying he fucked up royally by insisting on taking the first offer that came through the door for him in 2016. Blackburn was a terrible move, Owen Coyle got sacked shortly after he arrived, they cancelled his loan, Wigan was a terrible choice for a permanent move, but he had tasted first team football and was just really impatient.

His career has never recovered. I genuinely think he could have had a good Championship loan followed by a permanent PL move around 21/22 years old. The problem is he's much better suited to high level football than lower league, kick and run stuff.

When he was in the EDS I thought he would end up in the upper end of the Championship at worst. He had the work ethic and technical skill as a youth player that would have lent itself to the Potter/Bielsa/Hassenhuttl style of high pressing, quick transitions and moving the ball quick and those clubs do buy from smaller leagues like LOI or the Championship.

But Cypress? Awful decision, hopefully the tax break is worth it. Maybe Mick will take him to Cardiff in the summer - if he's still in a job.

Totally agree with everything there. He's no less naturally talented than the likes of Ward-Prowse imo for example, nor someone like Kalvin Phillips. I know they play slightly different roles, but you get my point. Look where they are now compared.
