How do you cope with nerves during a big game at home

I know I'm stupid as I'm missing out on our live matches and wins, but I have all but given up watching City live, bar the odd game, as I get too agitated and nervous watching.

It's seeing the mistakes, missed passes, not marking, losing posession, etc, close up on the TV that drives me mad, and I start effing and jeffing, etc. It started off as just one match every now and again, mainly the big games, but now I've got into a habit of not watching the matches. I tend to wait until full-time, come on BM, and find out if City have won or not. Once I know City have won, I find the match highlights and goals on the internet.

When I went to the matches it didn't bother me as I couldn't see those things close up, and the atmosphere, singing, noise, conversation with those stood around me, banter with the away fans, etc, also distracted me.

I won't watch the Liverpool match on Sunday. Yet I had no problem going to Anfield season after season and seeing City get beat. It's f***ing weird.

Do I need help? :-(

This has been a problem for me since we became a good team with a chance of winning things. Every game is crucial now. In the 80s and 90s we had a lot of games with nothing riding on them which meant less stress for us fans. I used to love travelling to away friendlies because it was a nice day out. When we were truly shit I used to have a laugh at the matches without taking them too seriously.
Don't get me wrong I don't want to go back to having a shit team and I have loved the last ten years but I think I know how you are feeling. Watching on TV is always more stressful than being in the crowd.

I have been known to lose it sometimes.
Take yesterday, I lost it completely, punching the walls, kicking the tables, and shouting at the screen.

I fucking hate Solitaire!

You don't even watch our matches? That means you're not that interested to be honest mate. Nowt wrong with that of course but having seen you post on here for years I always though you were a passionate fan.

If it's a tight game last 10 minutes put it on pause and take the dog for a walk, on return watch it on fast forward to the end. It was so less stressful when we were shit.

I get really nervous watching until we are at least two goals ahead. I'm not sure why, given how our defence is playing right now.

For the big league games like Liverpool, United, I tend to watch on my phone, and only half watch when we are being attacked.

I've often gone out for a run, to distract me from the game, and time my return for the end of the game. Or if it is tight with a ten minutes to go, I'll walk the dog and keep checking Bluemoon for any more goals. When the page count suddenly kicks on by 20 pages I know something has happened.

It's weird really. When in the stadium, I never really feel any nerves.

All cup games are different. I see them as a nice bonus, and I don't get nervous when watching them.

I used to ring me dad up and we'd both end up laughing. After he passed, at the beginning of the Centurions season, I swore I'd never let it get to me again, just enjoy the match and our wonderful team whatever the outcome.

Having said that, as a matchgoer since the mid 70's, I still smoke and have a beer. When it gets really bad, I talk to his ashes on the mantlepiece! Lol.

I close all the doors into the living room so non football members of family no to stay away and not walk in front of the tv and now switch mobile phone off - 1 minute lag on my tv iptv streaming so I used to know automatically before hand when we had conceded due to the kind natured rag friends I have that provide early notification services - really weird as I have not had any text messages for months now

I went in the bedroom when Mahrez stepped up to take that late penalty at Anfield .... I'm still there!!
I've only been here since last February, apart from medical appointments, as the girls have mainly done my shopping.
As to a match, I set up the TV channel half an hour before the KO, back to Bluemoon until the bending of the knee, and then watch. Half time go for a brew/piss, then switch off at full time.
Back to Bluemoon for the post match bullshit, and sometimes dazzling insight (someone agrees with my POV).
Living on my own, I can shout and swear to my heart's content.

I never, ever watch any of the pre-game build up or chat as they tend to talk absolute shite anyway. I will sit down about 5 secs before kick off and I'm normally fairly calm throughout. Only exception is when we start dicking about at 1-0 or 2-0 with about 20 mins to go, passing for passing's sake with no purpose and one cock-up away from conceding. Then I get pissed off and agitated. Evening ko's there'll be a glass of wine for the second half.....afternoon ko's it's a cup of tea.
