Coronavirus (2021) thread

The simplest way for the government to ensure that won't happen is to not give anyone the choice of which vaccine they have. You get what you're given and that's the end of it.
Which is what happens now as I say. Quite rightly.

Indeed they should be having words with the media to try to get them to stop causing vaccine envy.

They have a role to pay in not derailing this highly successful vaccination programme.

That the numbers are already starting to show is working.

Why not focus stories about that instead of studies from South Africa?

Nor are they pointing out they cannot give the Pfizer vaccine to some people with specific conditions. No big story about that even though there are more people excluded that way by far and so must have the vaccine being dissed or nothing than there are South African virus cases in the UK.

It's a sad time when over a 1,000 deaths is considered a positive as it's a third down. Just hope that by the end of the month we can get deaths down to less than 350 per day and cases to nearer 1,000 or less. Then by the end of March deaths down to double digits and cases in the low 100's. Some real positive signs that the light at the end of the tunnel is beginning to slowly move nearer and nearer.

There is NO way they could or should give an option on vaccine choice as that will drive many to wait needlessly

Right now speed matters far more than which of the largely similar vaccines.

All of which can be and will be updated for the booster we will all need in 3 months and over 50s possibly a few months after that once reprogrammed for the latest variants.

The worst thing that can happen is the media driving vaccine make envy. That will kill people more surely than any figures in a test analysis on a few percentage points.
You are right..just to let you know that with say flu vaccines, surgeries would go for the best financial deal they would get per vaccine..no question of efficacy.. Being retired not sure how it now works for Covid, probably a CCG led matter..I suspect that in time as the stats come out there maybe a shift to certain manufacturers. I would probably do research and ask the GP what stocks he has available !! As you say, would not say no to any offer. The truth is, the better informed you are, the more likely you are to get what you want.

Unfortunately that won't happen. You have anti government outlets such as the Guardian & the Mirror desperately trying to spin everything as a negative and even pro government ones such as the Mail doing the same just to get the click rate up.

The thing that will change perceptions will be the vastly improving situation in the coming weeks.

A little bit strange but:
Ten days after one side of my lip/tongue is a bit swollen stops me from talking.

There is no place to call and query anything they just say call 111 if you have any problems. There is an online yellow card place to report any side effects but it's long winded. I have had loads of jabs and no way am I still sore after 17 days. It's not overly painful just a bit uncomfortable, i.just wondered if anyone else is experiencing similar.

I really hope they get the gyms back open!
Of all the things we can't do the gym ban is farcical.
Its proven that we are the most obese nation in Europe and thus why our death rate is horrendous, yet these clowns shut places where people can get fit.
Properly managed gyms would be fine with a booking in system and social distancing.
Yet another thing they have banned. Absolutely disgusting.

I had my jab on 29th Jan and my arm is still a little bit sore and a bit hard at the entry site. But getting better each day.

Well my best friend had Pfizer 3 weeks ago and I had AZ today so will keep you informed on both.

She did not feel the jab. Nor did I. Both commented it was less noticeable than a flu jab we have both had for 20 years now.

Neither she nor I had any immediate effects. Though I am only at about 5 hours so not likely.

She did have a sore arm next day for about 24 hours. Then nothing.

I get that every other year with a flu jab so will let you know tomorrow.

But I have never had it last more than 2/3 days at most. So 17 days would seem unusual enough to post on that site.

Kirkstall, you will be my last Blue patient !!!..a reaction would not normally be specific to one side of your tongue, it would usually be the whole tongue..could be anaemia, B12 deficiency, toothpaste to name but a few. Strongly would suggest that if it is one side of the tongue and lip, persistent, you need to see your GP. Maybe try an anti-histamine in the interim in case of a strange localised reaction. PM me if you wish.

Yes it's odd. The worst one I experienced was yellow fever when I was at sea and this has lasted longer than that.

TIP: If anyone is feeling slightly depressed by the doom and gloom on the news and so decides to change the channel.....do NOT put go to channel 4 because 'A Place in the Sun' makes you feel worse!!
I'd be happy with a place near the bar and a pint of OBB in the "Sun in September" in Burnage right now.

Had too much good news today?

Sadly here comes some not so good.

Every region goes down with the big cases drop today. Some very low scores.

But the North West goes up! The only one and is the most infected in England today.

With the NW death numbers today as high as they have ever been as a percentage of the England total - having the most cases of every region too sadly reveals that - although this region has been falling too - this is the area right now with the biggest problem in relative terms.

Wonder if Westminster will notice?

It is all but certain now North West will be top of the weekly regional Pop Score table- though as that is calculated on 5 days old data you will almost certainly not hear about that for now.

Matt - seriously you haven't a fucking clue - the other day on the Liverpool pre match thread you stated it was scandalous Pep was not playing a striker in such a big game. That comment aged well. It seems you know better than Pep and Chris Whitty now?

Of course Gyms shouldn't be open. People can go for walks and runs to maintain fitness.

I wonder if that's because of the extra testing being done in certain South Manchester postcodes and positive cases have been found in people with no symptons who ordinarily wouldn't have gone for a test??

Not everyone likes running or walking
My point is that properly managed gyms should be open. I totally disagree with the logic of of shutting them.
