And Messi, who is desperate to leave, can’t do much about Barca being even worse at the back and having a midfield miles worse than ours. They’re a really average side. It’s why he was so desperate to get out.
And above all, it's not going to get better in the next couple of years. If he wants any serious football in the last 2 years of his career he has to leave.

Balague just said that Barca could sell their deadweight, raise 200m, and then sign stars like Haaland and Alaba in an attempt to keep Messi there. Never thought of that. It's over. Messi isn't coming.

Honestly, do those of you who think we won't sign him based off his lack of pressing think that Pep, Txiki etc. aren't perfectly aware of that? Do you think they haven't watched him play?
This comes up a lot in my mind. So many posters think that Pep and the other relevant staff members are blind to so many things.

If we can see it, they can too.

it is clear the Spanish league is pretty poor now, and he can look good at that level , but not against a decent team. A bit like Rodney Jack stood out at Crewe, that was his level to shine.

Some honestly defend Messi as if he is a City player. Understandable as he has been the worlds best player for several years with Ronaldo.
However they are blinded for agreeing the fact Messi would purely be a commercial buy. As the player he is clearly on his return with the odd magic versus midtable teams.
Like Pep says: He should finish his career at Barca. And I think Pep says in a very polite way: I’m not interested.

I don't think Pep would sign him to be honest. Hence the mantra of "Messi should finish his career at Barcelona".

He's being respectful.

That’s Pep for you very respectful manager.

Ask yourself this if Messi said he wanted to come to city do you think we would say thanks but no thanks?

Now think about what he would bring to the football group as a whole and if you think Pep couldn’t get a tune out of him for two years you ain’t been watching what he has managed coached at city in the last few years.

I’m on the fence on this one. I absolutely 100% didn’t think he justified the fee.

As a free transfer I’m for it, but at this stage it’s a swan song like Vieira or Lampard.

at his age we’d get flashes of brilliance. But our fans have it in their heads we’d be getting peak Messi, and that player no longer exists.

So let’s welcome him warmly, but he’d be coming to assist Raz, Foden, KDB etc and not the other way around.

In some ways I’m inclined to agree with you. Namely IF City were to sign Messi I would trust the club and Pep of course to know what they are doing, and for that reason alone I’d be okay with it. I still wouldn’t sign him personally, but if the club DID I would be a fool not to trust their judgement.

I honestly don’t think Pep would sign him now. Not for the money it would cost.

We‘ll find out over summer I suppose.

Haha Balague don’t seem to realise the much shit Barcelona are in they sell there dead weight that will go to banks. The mans clueless.

Now that’s a sensible post.

Anybody who still thinks signing Messi would be anything other than a vastly, cripplingly, expensive club-destroying mistake should be watching btsport 3 tonight.

Absolutely dreadful, lazy, big headed performance.
If he paid us to play for us I'd still be tempted to say "no thanks, you're 6 years too late "
Your right I base my whole opinion of him in one game in a shit team when he doesn’t want to be there
I have forgot the fact he is the greatest player of all time, forgot his goals this season and forgot everything I know about football
Get a grip

I can't imagine there are many fans that think we are getting peak Messi. When he is motivated and rotated we will probably be getting something like 85% of peak Messi and for a club that is already competing for four trophies every year that will be just fine.

I would be happy for Messi to come on a free and have his final few seasons entertaining the premier league as long as we go in balls deep for Haarland or Mbappe as soon as they’re available.
Messi would be a beautiful interlude.

Anyone judging Messi’s current form by what they saw tonight is making a fool of themselves. This team is ridiculous and on top of that, Koeman still kills him with poor tactics. There was no other possible outcome. 2015 Messi with these same team mates and coach would’ve fared just the same. And yet, if you look at stats, he did not have a bad performance. His score is 7.6 on Sofascore, for instance. We have the coach that better understands him, and a team that would fit him. It makes no sense for him to go to PSG.
