Anyone have the gen on the claims out of Israel supposedly suggesting the vaccination programme is stopping 90% of infections and they hope to reach herd immunity by sometime in March.

Is it feasible to get there that fast with vaccination alone? Though Israel is a smallish nation where it is comparatively easy to cover everyone in weeks unlike the UK or US.

They have apparently got to about 32% of the population with both jabs now.

We are not far off that level having had one.

Guess watching the figures in these two countries over coming weeks will be illuminating.

Another point I’ve not seen discussed is that each household should’ve been given stimulus cheques, like the States, boosting the economy. So much money has been wasted, I say wasted but really lining the pockets of friends, which the tax payer will suffer for. Best roadmap is Johnson out and Jeremy Hunt in.
Don’t want to hear your political views thanks

The risk is carried by those over 50- almost exclusively. Why do you think that JCVI came up with this strategy in the first place. If the Etihad has capacity then use it to widen the age related criteria.
Really ? I seem to read about hundreds of under-50s with long Covid in the media, including many parents of school-age children. Risk isn't just about hospitalisation and death.

I hope it’s legit and it’s better more people are getting vaccinated than slots being going to waste. I know in London a couple of weeks ago there was an issue of hundreds of teachers getting a link when they shouldn’t have had but that was at a time when demand amongst priority groups was heavily outstripping demand.

I'd warn others they will be checked for accredited ID at the door and unless they a are one to one SEN teacher or works in care, they will be turned away.

The same link was passed around a number of teachers the other week and my wife booked a slot easily for the Etihad before she cancelled later that night.

The press and council had put out that this link is being shared incorrectly and the back story of surplus as to why teachers are now being offered it, is a fabrication done via Chinese whispers.

It's a legitimate link for those professions being called up, but people are sharing it in good faith and it's led to some very embarrassing turnarounds with some staff at schools.

You've said Turkey instead of Isreal again I think! Ha

As pointed out, there is a covid thread in the politics sub forum so go and bore everyone in there.

England hospital deaths:

307 - down from 436 last Saturday

But with another high of 59 from the NW. Only Midlands higher once more.

These two regions with the highest case numbers day after day are also now regularly producing the most deaths.

Looks like until these regions catch up with the falls down south we will not see UK cases fall much further.

But patient numbers are falling in the NW steadily and in Midlands but less quickly too now so hopefully this will come soon.

England hospital deaths: 4 wks v 3 wks v 2 wks v last wk v Today

710 / 70 NW / 10%

681 / 88 NW / 13%

571 / 64 NW / 11%

436 / 56 NW / 13%

307 / 59 NW / 20% TODAY

This jump up in the NW death number percentage is certainly the biggest indicator where there are still concerns

Especially given the biggest week to week fall in deaths today everywhere else but NW and Midlands. And this is a clear trend now not a one off.

307 England hospital deaths by region:

69 Midlands, 59 North West, 53 NE & Yorkshire, (well over half the deaths outside the south again)

45 London, 38 East 32 South East and 11 South West

Most in local trusts in NW - 12 East Lancs, 8 Pennine Acute, 7 Liverpool, 7 Manchester.

Yep, teacher friend of my wife just been turned away, although her teacher friend got jabbed last night. We’ve cancelled my missus’ appt as can’t be arsed driving to the Etihad to just get fucked off.

307 England hospital deaths by age:

0 - 19 (1) 0.3%

20 - 39 (1) 0.3%

40 - 59 (31) 10.1%

60 - 79 (124) 40.4%

80 PLUS (150) 48.9%

Much the same pattern and another sub 50% for the over 80s and over 10% for the younger ages

Numbers in those younger ages are falling but the percentage is rising because the older ones are falling more.

As we need to see.

But not sure so far this is enough of a dramatic shift to be really sure that the vaccines are the reason.

This will just rumble on and on. Don’t plan anything for this year. This inept government will open all schools and carnage awaits.
I am not planning a thing. Have sort of written off this year again albeit with the easing of some restrictions. Sad but I think probably true.

Scotland data:

29 deaths - was 45 last week

803 cases - was 908 last week

4.6% positive - was 4.9% last week

1154 patients - down 68 on yesterday - was 1449 last week

102 ventilated icu - up 4 on yesterday - was 110 last week

* a little concern over this last number as it was 95 two days ago.
