TV Series

Binge watching Luther. I had it down as yet another british cop drama like Inspector Morse, The Sweeney or Taggart or something, but gave it a go after a bird at work recomended it several times. Its brilliant, not suprised to see it in the bluemoon top 100.

What makes it different from more generic cop shows?

Very interested to read your answer, given that your user name suggests that you may be a fan of Twin Peaks.

Ha ha. Well spotted, good 'policing'. Its also my initials.

Its dark and gritty(sounds cliched I know). But I always struggle with anything that can pass as PG rated, and almost be shown on tv during day time. They feel watered down. Just my personal taste. I have The xfiles, Twin Peaks, Fargo and True Detective in my top 4 tv series, and Luther feels more at home along with these 4 than it would with The Bill.

Thanks for getting back to me so quickly Double R.

Am also an admirer of both Twin Peaks and True Detective and was blown away by what a brilliant job Lynch did 25 years down the road. The series ranks very high in my top 20.

Will definitely check out Luther at some point soon. It’s now currently in the queue behind Spiral (am on Season 6), Chernobyl, The Corner and Top of the Lake.

Chernobyl is simply astounding - one of those shows that even though you think you know what happened, it's riveting television for it's entire running time.

Should be on everybodys "to watch list".

There are so many good TV series around at the moment, sadly some are coming to an end and there will be a void to fill, but i really like (and love in some cases) the below series

Chernobyl is mind blowing, and in my top 20. You will love it.
Will have to check out those other 3 you mentioned.
There arent many episodes of Luther, watched series 4 last night, and its only a 2 parter, so its not too much of a slog. Only about 20 episodes I think, all of them 2 parters after series 1. So you can watch 2 parts inbetween watching other things, then come back a few days later and watch another 2.

Spiral is (so far) the only police drama that has - apart from The Wire - never given me any occasion to suspend disbelief.

What happened to Sarkozy yesterday almost sounds like a plot line from the series.

It can take a couple of episodes to get into but all 8 seasons of Spiral can be watched for free on the BBC iPlayer.

Started watching Wandavision.

It's alright. My biggest praise is that it's easy to watch. Some of the constant references feel a bit fan service like, and some characters seem a bit like fan avatars.

Some of the humour really hits the mark. The characters are really endearing.

Not a fan of Agnes being a villain. I think Hahn is a fantastic comedian; she was a genuine delight on screen. But I can't buy her as a bad guy. Maybe I'll have a change of heart after the finale.

Some of the early episodes were delightfully unsettling. I really enjoyed that aspect.

I really enjoyed Vikings.

Was gutted it is finished.

One of those i never bothered with. Then binged watched during lockdown.

A very underrated and oft overlooked TV series which I very much enjoyed - Counterpart.

It's a science fiction piece set on earth where... well, I'm not going to spoil it for you.

Watch the first episode or two of Counterpart on Amazon Prime - you'll likely be hooked if you're a sci-fi fan.
