New striker?

Lukaku just scored in the first minute of the game

Talking about 'Pep's style' like he hasn't changed styles to fit his talent about 4 times since he joined the club.
Exactly lol

He's tweaked the team a few times I agree, but changed his style 4 times. His style is possession based football with a high press and that will never change.

Even though I want Haaland, I honestly wouldn't be upset if we went into next season with Jesus and Delap as a back-up striker even if Aguero left.

Our fluid system is not based around our striker, instead the striker works in service to the team to have the system continue ticking.

Would also give Delap time to develop as well, although even if we bought Haaland I could see Delap getting some minutes with Jesus also playing in other positions, just not as many.

I know he’s old and injury prone but I do wonder if there’s a deal to be done for Kane. He’s far too good to waste his career at Spurs and maybe they’ll want to cash in now. Whether it’s him, Haaland, Lukaku or Martinez, we need a top striker.

He’d easy bag 30 or 40 a season for us.

Everything you need to know is before the “but” hehe BUT I don’t completely rule it out

Yeah, it’s probably too late, they’d be a nightmare to deal with and would squeeze every penny, but no denying he’s one of the best in the world. Kane, Lukaku and Messi all the wrong side of 25, and there’s only really Haaland who’s a world class striker of a decent age who’s gettable for a decent price. We need to be decisive on this.

I think based on that disastrous performance, Jesus should rightly be benched for Southampton. We should try Ferran up top again, he seems a clinical finisher in that position and has had his best game playing there.

I would argue Jesus needs to keep his place more than anything.

It's clear watching him that he's too eager to please, too anxious to try and do something and when he makes a mistake he beats himself up very publicly.

He's got the yips in front of goal. Go back and watch him in 2019 or 2020 and that Jesus would have 10+ more goals this year - but he's still got the skill and the technique, he's just having a crisis of confidence and its made worse by this idea Pep has created where if he doesn't score every game, he gets benched.

7 goals in his last 9 games, he's not playing badly.

The best thing for the rest of our season IMO would be to stick with him, let him feel like he doesn't need to play well and score every game in order to keep his place, let him relax and I think he'd immediately start scoring a lot more.

Yes we might get Haaland in the summer, but if you want to win this season, helping GJ get his confidence back is the best way to do it.

Same applies to KDB. He's not going to find his from on the bench. I said the same about Bernardo in autumn as well.

I’m really conflicted how I feel about Jesus, I sometimes think he can comfortably become our main man capable of 20+ Prem goals a season and gives us the pressing Pep desires from the front men. Then i watch him miss good chances each game and can’t help but think how much of an upgrade in front of goal someone like Haaland would be.

I do think Haaland would be an unbelievable signing and would love to see him in Blue next season.

Also he almost had a career ending injury before he got to settle down properly and coming back from such a long lay off at this level takes loads of courage and confidence.

If we had a lethal striker this season we would win virtually every game because of the amount of chances we create . Jesus is a good striker but he is not a world class striker which we require .

That's not how it works though is it?

Pep had Messi at his goalscoring best from 2009-2012 (when his goalscoring form exploded) in a dominant Barcelona side alongside Henry and Villa. They created a tonne of chances, and certainly didn't win every game.

Pep had Lewandowski and Muller in a dominant Bayern side, they certainly didn't win every game. Not one CL.

At City Pep has had a top level Aguero starting in teams that create a boatload of chances per game, and we definitely haven't won every game with him in the side.

I mean, just recently we went on a 21 game winning streak, beating every other top 6 side in the process. Without a stereotypical forward or a super clinical player up front.

I'm not arguing against a lethal striker, but the idea a lethal striker would magically change everything is far too oversimplified.
