May as well bring this back. Awful on the ball last night, that back heel on the touchline was as dumb as you could get.

Gave Cancelo a rest though and as I said originally, still got plenty to offer but please just keep it simple Kyle.
 
Just watching his post match interview and I have just noticed for the very first time the enormous girth of his neck.

Yeah I don't personally find him problematic but it's ignorant of me to pretend that a lot of people find him frustrating, due to his rather limited skillset with the ball. My point was more in reference to the idea that if you were to use that lack of ball playing ability against him then it should also be acknowledged how much else he brings to the team in a huge range of ways.

For 4 years, he was our best defender. While the 3 players next to him changed every 3 days, he was the only face of consistency. People talk about partnerships in defence, imagine how difficult it must have been for him not knowing which 3 defenders were going to start with him - constantly having to adapt his game to a different defensive combination. Deserves far more respect and admiration from the fans than he gets.

There's this narrative around Walker that he's not particularly smart, and that he relies on pace to bail himself out. Imagine people saying that Neymar relies on dribbling to bail himself out, or that Aguero relies on good finishing to cover up his limitations. Those are strengths, talents, not excuses. For some reason pace and physicality are seen as "lesser" traits and a player must be shite or average if his talents are not on the attacking side.

Also the "not being smart narrative" is just complete rubbish. He's clearly very intelligent. For the 4 years between 2016 and 2020, he has been a starter in practically every Pep team regardless of the formation or the tactics, and he has had to reinvent himself constantly based on that. There are very few players in the squad who can claim that crown.

He's been a huge asset to the squad and still is. Very few players have it all, even for specialist positions, and it frustrates me how little allowance some seem to make for the shortcomings of others.

I am happily surprised at his continuing improvement. Not many improve into their 30s, touch and decision making.
He may let me down next week by conceding a needless penalty-)

He is absolutely woeful and despite what many on here think, he is actually the biggest liability of all our regular defenders. At least he is fast though.

I can't understand the slagging either, thought he was pretty good, solid, one or two shakey moments in possession, but a must against a fast attack

Walker is the best defender , Cancelo the better offensive player , it depends on the opposition which player starts at right back , they both have their strengths , and i will remind you Walker has been at a very high level for a few years , Cancelo has had a good six months.
Its very , very close
