25 years ago today

I was in the Platt Lane right behind the goal for that one. Pretty much the only highlight of that season I remember (apart from his goal at the other end for a 1-0 against Villa, I think it was)

The one thing that's struck me recently is that the really dark days weren't half as long as they seemed at the time. In fact, there were so many false dawns, there must have been different shades of black.

Strange, that we've been in the Premier League for almost 20 consecutive seasons, and we're approaching the 10th anniversary of beating the rags at Wembley?

It's partly a matter of your perspective at the time isn't it, and therefore especially your age. I was born in 86. The first season I was really properly conscious of football was Horton's last season, after that it was all downhill. We lost 5-0 to United when I was in year 4 (I think it was) of primary school, got relegated the next year, had a manager quit after one month the year after that (Coppell), saw Pollock's legendary own goal and City get relegated again my first year of secondary school, and so on. I remember being at Tranmere away in maybe 1998 and people shouting 'Your not fit to wear the shirt,' and being kind of mystified because in a way all I'd ever seen in the shirt was pretty rubbish!

I know exactly what you mean mate.

During the mid 70s there was an in-joke regarding the 50,000 City fans who all claimed to have been part of the 8,000 attendance v Swindon in 1965. As I'd only been born the previous August, I had a fairly reasonable excuse.
I was at York and Lincoln in 98 but I'm also aware that those games were almost 23 years ago, and we've since gained a whole new generation of City fans
It irritates me now when some people use those games as a badge of honour.

Was in the Main Stand that day. The buzz at half time reflected the fact that we had just witnessed a very special goal.

For some reason rather than being in the open corner North/Kippax I was stood at the front of the Kippax with the tunnel behind me level with the penalty area at the Platt lane End for this game.

Only ever been down there a couple of times for raggy games when I fancied myself. Had a great view of it.

I was at the game, and missed the goal. I was on call with work and my pager went off. (Yes No Mobile) had to ask a steward to let me out so I went to the call box on Claremont Road to sort the problem out. The steward waited for me and let me back in. Don't think that would happen today
I told the girl I was on the phone too where I was. As she asked me the score it went in!!!!! Got back in to a proper piss taking session from the lads around me!

I remember Sky doing their 100 best Premier League goals - this didn't make the list - although not surprisingly plenty of Rag and Dipper tap ins did!

The new Kippax was fully built before that season started.
