It's partly a matter of your perspective at the time isn't it, and therefore especially your age. I was born in 86. The first season I was really properly conscious of football was Horton's last season, after that it was all downhill. We lost 5-0 to United when I was in year 4 (I think it was) of primary school, got relegated the next year, had a manager quit after one month the year after that (Coppell), saw Pollock's legendary own goal and City get relegated again my first year of secondary school, and so on. I remember being at Tranmere away in maybe 1998 and people shouting 'Your not fit to wear the shirt,' and being kind of mystified because in a way all I'd ever seen in the shirt was pretty rubbish! The one thing that's struck me recently is that the really dark days weren't half as long as they seemed at the time. In fact, there were so many false dawns, there must have been different shades of black.
Strange, that we've been in the Premier League for almost 20 consecutive seasons, and we're approaching the 10th anniversary of beating the rags at Wembley?

I know exactly what you mean mate. It's partly a matter of your perspective at the time isn't it, and therefore especially your age. I was born in 86. I nipped out to the bogs and missed it after drinking five pre-match pints in the Osborn! Was in the Main Stand that day. The buzz at half time reflected the fact that we had just witnessed a very special goal.

The new Kippax was fully built before that season started. For some reason rather than being in the open corner North/Kippax I was stood at the front of the Kippax with the tunnel behind me level with the penalty area at the Platt lane End for this game.
Only ever been down there a couple of times for raggy games when I fancied myself. Had a great view of it.
