Erling Haaland

I don't know how people will cope with Haaland and Messi tbh. I think both inside and outside there will be an almost total meltdown.

I simply refuse to get excited about things that have not happened and may or may not. That's not a judgement on the chances of anything happening.

I wouldn't describe signing both Haaland and Messi this summer as beyond my wildest dreams but it would be right on the edge of them so I'm not sure how I'd react but would be happy to find out.

Just heard Christian Falk on a podcast saying Haaland won’t leave unless Dortmund fail to get CL football. Sancho on the other hand will definitely be leaving. No idea how reliable he is when it comes to transfers other than Bayern.

Well if he has a podcast to fill, he Has say something!

I think it is irrelevant myself.

They will qualify. They are 2 points behind with 9 games to go, and have the better team than both above them. Remember when everyone was writing off Barcelona making top 4, and now they are in a decent position to actually win it? this will be similar, they'll make top 4.
And if they do, will it change much, player might be happier to stay another year, but if the offers to move are right and the club can get the money they want, they'll both take it.

And if they don't qualify, i can actually seeing them digging in their heels more. They'll beed the money and will look to get as much as they can, so the player being more keen to leave doesn't really change that.

Plus I can’t imagine Haaland having much say in that matter. He might be willing to stay another year, but would BVB want to keep him next season and lose him the following year for his release clause fee? Would cost them millions.

Don’t know about the reliability of this journalist - but reliable and journalist are not words you see together too often these days. There is simply no real incentive for Dortmund to hold on to Haarland. The buy out clause next summer make it more expedient to sell now at a higher price... and they may get better value trying to reinvest their money this summer in the midst of a pandemic than they will next summer.

Anyone who talks so definitively is clearly a BSer. No transfer is done until it is done. Agents like to talk up deals - means nothing. The selling club has to agree and why would they agree to anything in the middle of a season and outside a transfer window. Its BS - at this stage of a season all rumors are just rumours. Guess work.

If Dortmund brief the media that "they have to sell" then Haaland's value immediately goes down. I am pretty sure Dortmund are in a very bad financial situation regardless of top 4. He has already declined a new contract, so it's clear it's this season for 120 mil or next season for 75 mil. Dortmund are smart at doing business and it seems they already have Moukoko as Haaland's successor in mind. They will sell if they get the price they want.

I just think that is common sense and does not have to do with so much inside knowledge. Dortmund usually will not let both go - but Sancho's transfer is hanging in the air since a year so that will for sure happen. Haland can only go when the club gives the ok as he does not have a release clause this season. But yes, with a hyper offer they for sure could be tempted - or the pressure and unsatisfaction by agent/player (and financial situation of the club without the CL) could change when they do not reach the Champions League.

Moukoko is still very young with a handful of matches. If Haland stays another season he might be the successor - if Haland leaves they would need a replacement for atleast a season.

Or they could buy back Isak

I'm more optimistic about him signing than not.

That being said, if he does stay put til next season then the difference in price to the buyer between this summer and next is likely to be 40-50m. What concerns me is the likes of rags/real/barca using that saving to offer even bigger wages than they usually do.

If he's staying put this year I'd offer them the buy out clause now and try to secure a deal before the market picks up next year and other clubs have had a chance to recover financially.

Why would Dortmund accept the buy out clause now? Make more sense to keep him another season and get the buy out. If as you suggest other clubs could recover by next year then there will be more suitors and despite the buy out clause Dortmund can still accept higher offers

Yes. They can accept higher offers now. But next year the price is set (whatever it actually is)

I mean offer them the buy out amount this summer and he moves next year. If they're intent on keeping him that is. They'd have the cash in place to line up his replacement and get another year out of him.

At £70m? All the big clubs will be in for him next year. Be nice if we could wrap it up sooner like we did with the jesus deal.

Don’t think I’d want too splash out that kind of money too ‘loan’ him back too the club I bought from. Plus we need him now I would suggest, not tomorrow so too speak.

You're right, we do need him now. But do they want to sell now is the question. If yes then we'd better pony up 100m+. With other transfers we've always got an option a,b,c if we don't like the price. I just don't see any alternative to this kid. If we pay more and get him now or less and get him later is fine by me. As long as we get him
