The first City match I wasn't by his side watching. Fucking hurts.

On the 13th December 2008 I had a chance to watch the game from the main stand right next to the players as a work colleague of my son was on holiday. That was the day that Cahill scored the only goal of the game at the family stand end in time added on after the 90 minutes. It is still etched into my brain.

Yes, I know they are .
I'm just saying why I think that is and how it can soon change.
Same for every set of fans up and down the country. Including us.
You like anyone who turns your rivals over, even if its just for a day.

Know a few Everton fans who are decent lads and on the whole are a lot more grounded and realistic than 'the other lot.
Yes, there are some similarities to us in days gone by but the supposed' affinity' towards us is ( i agree )very much to do with us being their best bet in stopping their insufferable rivals getting even more insufferable.
The last bit you mention is very true. In the concourses at Wembley before the Chelsea lge cup final in 2019 City fans watching the United v Liverpool match on TV ,were (though maybe not going as far as supporting them) certainly hoping United didn't concede any goals that day!
City v Everton games aren't always the most 'amicable' in my experience either. Different times and many (blue) moons ago, but always remember the running battles in the Platt Lane early 80s (during the match when Trevor Francis was sent off)
