Anyone else heard about this.

Apparently Phil Jones will NOT be getting a testimonial next year. He signed a new contract last year and one of the clauses is that he has waviered the right for a testimonial due to the lack of playing time he's had over the last couple of years.

I know we take the piss out of him but I feel that's a bit fucking low from the club particularly if true as most highly paid footballers normally give their testimonial money to charity

While I'm sure he's not short of a bob or three, it's petty, bordering on mean, from "TWGC"™. But not altogether surprising, given their track record in the past.

Remember this is the club who will let Eric Cantona take expenses out of funds raised for the Munich Air disaster survivors for playing. They also cut the survivors off and kicked them out of the club accommodation when it was apparent they could never play again. They were also never really interested in remembering Munich until they realised they could package it up and make some cash out of it. Nothing really surprises me with the rags, shithouses to a man.

They'd probably be embarrassed at the turnout if they gave him a testimonial.
Would be lucky to sell 10k tickets i'd imagine

Phil Jones has played with Evra, Ferdinand, Vidic, Rooney, Giggs, Fletcher, Scholes, Park Ji Sung, Berbatov, Carrick, Nani, Javier Hernandez, Sanchez, Lukaku, Pogba, Ashley Cole, Gerrard, Terry, Wilshere, Owen.

Assuming he's not a massive prick behind closed doors and they all get on, you could easily put together a United vs. England legends testimonial that would get loads in with a reasonable ticket price and it's all for charity etc.

Especially this summer or next when everyone's desperate to go to live events again.

The sad fact is he's probably not going to get one because people would just take the piss and abuse him over it for being injured so much.

He'd probably miss it.

I actually don't have an issue with Cantona taking those expenses. His attendance at that match was the main thing that guaranteed a capacity crowd (I clearly remember this game being marketed by United more as the return of Cantona than a benefit match for the victims and families of the Munich air disaster) and more than offset his and his entourage's expenses. No, it's on the club and in particular that **** who had a penchant for peering under doors in ladies cubicles for paying it out of the Munich memorial pot rather than club funds.
