Clive Myrie named as the new Mastermind presenter.

I never quite warmed to John Humphries on the show, odd because he seems such a nice guy, which I think is the problem. Magnus had a headmaster aura about him, not a twattish condescending attitude like Paxman sometimes has on University Challenge, he just asked the questions and didn't try to be too pally with the contestants. I think it's what gave the show its fear factor and uniqueness, but whenever I watch it now it doesn't feel as though it is as intimidating as it used to be. Plus some of the specialist topics aren't proper subjects, they're too niche.

All that said, I hope Clive is a success.

Great journalist and good presenter - already the haters on Twitter are asking why this show suddenly has a black presenter and that twat Belfield has weighed in on YT. I suppose at least they haven't chosen Alex Scott or Naga Munchetty - a certain group would lose their shit were that to happen.
Whos' Belfield btw?

Has a great voice for it, good luck Clive (because I know you come on here occasionally ;-) ).

Good point, although I prefer the slightly more pally stuff these days...
Used to find it really dark as a kid....but I still find 70's early 80's British TV footage quite sinister, especially news footage. Adam Curtis knows this.

Alex Belfield - former BBC employee sacked for inappropriate comments and is now a bitter You Tuber all defund the BBC and why do the BBC have to choose black presenters over white ones is his schtick - google him

Don't even recognise him tbf....jumping on a bandwagon I guess.

He is just really bitter about being made to leave the BBC - then again you go around making inappropriate comments to or about young weather presenters whats gonna happen?

He is an attention seeking friend of Jim Davidson who thinks Naga Munchetty is doing the job he should have got.

I well remember his grin when we beat a certain team 6-1....... he is a staunch Blue and from all I've heard seems to be a nice man.

If he does come on here, welcome Clive and congratulations on your new role. I love Mastermind. Not quite as much as I love Only Connect but I feel Clive will be a good asset. :-)

I've just watched his interview with Dan Walker and Sally Nugent on Breakfast TV. He seems to have a great sense of humour. Well done Clive and love that practically the first thing he said was that Manchester City would be his specialist subject and then that the most popular subject was football!! Even though that was the wrong answer.... It's Harry Potter which is weird when the programme has been going for 50 years and HP is relatively young in comparison.

Only connect is the best quiz on tv

There is a Twitter account, Scarred for Life, which specialises in the dark and macabre nature of 60s-80s British TV, especially how terrifying a lot of stuff produced for children was. Think they did a book about it

Wow...not sure if I've seen that but there has to be something in it.
I'll take a look. It will either be therapy or set me back into a dark 70's TV world nightmare....
