We obviously don't know all the reasons behind Lavelle's lack of playing time , and I believe she has had injuries, but to have had so little time in the team is a waste of her abilities , and that has to be down to management .

She is crucial to the energy of the US team, but only had bit parts at City .
Here’s the thing with women’s football. We will win the majority of games regardless of the starting line up. Chelsea are a top quality side, the rest not so much. This means the manager can point to a winning record to justify his team selection, but this misses the point that when the really big games come around we come up short.

Men and Women obviously have the same penalty coach.
Same with insisting on playing from the back, even if it is clearly not working for the women’s team. But we must continue to be holistic at all costs.
Tbh I haven't been that impressed with Lavelle when she has featured, of the two I'd rather keep Mewis if we could.
Apart from her heroics in the World Cup, she doesn’t impress me. She is another example of players overrated by media.

And players are not the only ones to blame. Gareth Taylor is a limited coach. This is a much bigger task than his abilities. If for some reason we can’t hire a high quality coach, I would rather have Cushing back. He did much better with less quality players.

Taylor needs binning. Get proper coach in the women's game. I said this previously, we have Guardiola in the mens game, get the equivalent coach in the womens game!

The club cannot say they take womens football seriously until this happens. Fucking U18 coach in charge.

Imagine replacing Guardiola with U18 coach in the future? Will never happen

I agree with you , I something think the club don't take the women team seriously and treat it has some sort of gimmick. If Rose Lavelle didn't fit Taylor's team plan why sign her ?
Maybe the club sign these "superstar" players for the kudos, ie "look at us we've signed a superstar of the women's game" !
When if they where really interested in making a great team, first of all you would go out and sign the best manager/coach you could, then build the best team you could ! We are lucky that we have some of the best young players in England at the club at the moment. But we need to build a team around them, instead of signing a big name only to waste them sat on a bench !

There are two sides of the coin with Lavelle. Take last Wednesday, she was skipping past people for fun like she does. She was also giving the ball away very cheaply however, and doing so repeatedly. The thing is that when you need something special, you have to have players out there who are capable of being special. Even if that special player comes with a downside.

Fucking Schooled.
Lauren Hemp & Roebuck were fantastic.
You CANNOT miss penalties at this level.
White, Mewis, Kelly, Greenwood all went missing.
On another day we score 3 however on the same day they score 8.
What the fuck were we doing giving the ball to their press time after time first half.
Shit their pants in the biggest game of the season. Unacceptable.
Taylor needs to tell a few of them in no uncertain terms that wasnt good enough for this club.
Taylor is a huge part of the problem though. Massively out of his depth, especially in big games

You could say Kevin De Bruyne has a tendency to give the ball away on occasions, but when the big games come around you want him in there because he is likely to create or score a goal out of nothing. This is the nature of creative players, they have to be given the freedom and support to try things rather than focusing on their shortcomings. A fit and firing Rose Lavelle, playing in her best position and feeling empowered and appreciated by the management would have been a game changer today, but that opportunity has been wasted unfortunately.

Not much to add to much written. My brief summary on what I saw is that the Barcelona girls were, apart from a few exceptions, more athletic, more aggressive, more skilful, better organised and, sad to say, just better more natural footballers. Watching Chelsea as I write and Wolfsburg should be winning by 2 goals although Chelsea are doing OK. Maybe the WSL has been somewhat overhyped when our best is compared to the very best Europe has to offer.

Indeed, I have a wearisome suspicion that we are not gonna see the best of Rose. Great pity. She needs to start more games and not come off the bench. Whenever she has come on things look to be on the up and there's the feeling she is gonna make summat happen. Were she on at the beginning then she'd be making things happen from the start, but she's one of those creative players where some managers only see the odd wayward pass or the occasion where she is dispossessed.

I think the same thing happened when we played A.Madrid - the continental teams are technically superior at the latter stages of the CL, and unless we are on our 'A' game we tend to bash heads against a brick wall.

And that showed perfectly today .

Wasting talent isn't something a manager should be doing if they are astute though, and Taylor imo is guilty of doing just that.

The team's performance today smacked of being comfortable in the wsl but exposed against better class opposition.

Thats Carlos Vicens next role and future ambitions goosed then
(I had to google him for the point of that joke)

Chelsea have just beaten Wolfsberg 2-1 despite being outplayed for most of the first half and Wolfsberg missing plenty of decent chances.

The difference between Emma Hayes and Gareth Taylor as managers couldn't have been more evident imo. Hayes has overseen Chelsea for a number of years, is much more experienced and tactically aware . Changing the way Chelsea played in the 2nd half to be tighter, pushed up higher and grabbed two goals against the overall play.

Chelsea have invested in strikers who hit the target much more consistently, and specifically with the CL in mind as a target .

Whilst Ellen White is a decent striker, she is not clinical and wastes some decent chances. Today she missed decent chances despite being up against the better team.

If the CL is a genuine target, then the City team needs better players and a manager imo.

Been busy all day, recorded the football to watch as live.

Opening words of the bbc 1 news Manchester City woman will have to overcome a 3-0 defeat.

Never fucking mentioned when we win, utter twats.

Now where is that Likely lads episode :(

Harder, Sam Kerr and even Bethany England could fall out of bed and accidentally score a goal. No mistake, Chav women's team has serious firepower.
