City & FFP | 2020/21 Accounts released | Revenues of £569.8m, £2.4m profit (p 2395)

Its a good job I dont work in finance as I thought barce will around 1 billion in debt had withheld paying the players as they had no money. Yet here it says just 318 million in debt so why couldnt barca pay the players wages when clubs with bigger debt can ?
I think it's about £800m (same as Real Madrid) of gross debt.

Sometimes I wonder, in their rare moments of lucidity, whether the owners/investors of the clubs that aren't one of the chosen elite look back on their decision to side against us and regret it?

If I was them, and I watched, as the four clubs at the top that we decided to hand over absolute power decide that the golden chalace of European qualification is now out of reach forever, no matter how well we invest and play, to leave us languishing in a cycle of income and expendeture to never reach the heights, I would regret that we were on the wrong side of history.

And what was it all for? Absolutely nothing, because we beat them all anyway. So now, they've nothing to aim for, nowhere to go, and the "big bad enemy" won.

Bunch of cunts.
Reading this gives me a lovely warm glow in my soul.

In some ways the ‘not top 4’ clubs are worse than the elitists. The constant top 4 clubs at least had self interest as a motivator when formulating and voting for FFP. THe Everton’s, Newcastles, Villas etc didn’t have that.

Ive always been convinced they voted the way they did out of a sense of deference to the top 4. Kind of a ‘we’ll vote your way thank you Sir, please throw us a few crumbs from your table. We know and accept our place as your cannon fodder’

the only bit of your post I don’t agree with is when you call them a bunch of cunts. They are far far worse than that.

This is especially true of Arsenal. I love how they have continued to decline and their fans now pretty much accept their place as a 5-8 team. They do love to winge and wail about city though. But good.

Would love to be in the boardroom of, say, Villa when it was announced that Liverpool finishing 6th would be in the CL, but Villa finishing 5th would not.

They wouldn’t say a word. The Villa’s of this world have accepted their place as cannon fodder for their perceived betters years ago. They’re about to get what they fully deserve.

A big empty can of fuck-all.

I always saw it as an excuse for the rest of the clubs not to invest. When fans of those clubs are demanding investment to progress it’s a convenient excuse for owners to say “we’d love to but we aren’t allowed” whilst pocketing more and more money.

Greed from top to bottom

Maybe they just convinced themselves that liddle city just should not be at the top table and those filthy arabs (sorry, I meant filthy oil club) were bound to cheat. You just can't trust jonny foreigner.
Not just cunts, racist cunts.

I disagree, I think this would be very much welcomed. Take Haaland as an example, under current rules Madrid and Barcelona are probably 7th or 8th in the queue. Bring in salary cap (luxury tax) and suddenly they're in the game. If everyone is offering the same terms it will come down to life on the pitch and off it.

Both these clubs have to be taking long looks at themselves to figure out how they got here, what they can do to get out of it and how they can avoid any repeat. This idea looks like a perfect solution for them and the other traditional big clubs.
Barca pay 4 times what we do in wages, they're not going to pay 4 times the tax

uefa FFP have gone about it all the wrong way and now have back themselves into a corner with covid-19 hitting the major football clubs. it must be a wakeup call for all clubs and stop clubs running up debts they can not cover

football will be hit hard the next 5 years the transfer market. players wages. sponsorship. tv money. all will need reviewing based on all fans being allowed back into grounds. clubs like united that need a walk up fan market for merchandise shirt sales just to pay the weekly bills. because as it stand right now every club is paid the same from being on tv

also 2 things i can add in football is debt will be started to called in by everybody. because every £1 the owner (banks) of that debt life better and banks will need to recoup as much as they can because new money is not there

also how many people will be spending over £50 to go and watch football ? yes it would be great having fans in but have they got a spare £50 right now

FFP is dead forget it manchester city can be the only club that holds it head above water and dare you change the rules because football needs manchester city money

I don't know what they pay other than the leaked reports on Messi. That's my point though, they pay Messi £1m because someone else will if they don't. This new model appears to be about stopping clubs going crazy on pay. If Messi wanted to leave Barcelona it would be for sporting or lifestyle reasons as he would be getting the same pay cheque in Barcelona, Paris or Manchester. That is based on the assumption the luxury tax they intend imposing is so restrictive nobody will pay it.

Any tax so restrictive nobody (PL Clubs) will pay it would cause Barca and Madrid to fold overnight just on their exisitng contracts.

Yes folks, our good friend Rabin is dipping his toe in the water again and with some wise words too.

And now, many of these clubs have reached the point where they cannot play by the rules they themselves set up or raise fresh capital to help. So they're changing the rules of the game.

The one thing guaranteed from this is it will all be bollocks. The original concept of FFP with debt a material consideration was diluted. The various illogical, pathetic and self-preserving knee jerk amendments since FFP inception, including the changes to temporarily relax FFP rules and the very recent kite flying on credit for coefficients and past glories and restrictions on player movement between top clubs reinforces the view that there is no easy way out of the maze..... That is without consideration of radical equalisation across leagues, continents, currency, inflation differences and TV rights etc. The big boys won’t support this. I don’t even think it can work without the Euro Super Lge taking off. The NFL closed model works because the US is a single country and franchise ownership is established.

The pandemic has thrown an Andy Morrison size fox into the cartel hen house. The one club model, dependant on merchandising, season tickets and TV rights cannot cope with the economic headwinds. A new Chumps Lge format with (say) an additional £30m per year to each of the big history clubs is a sticking plaster.

We remain an unwelcome guest. But attempts to bar us from the club have failed. We seem to be in a better position than most and our multiple club model and land development strategy now looks like a master stroke. European footy is at a crossroads.

With the current bunch of influencers in charge I have no confidence that a decent solution will be found.

Ultimately the greedy bastards will end up eating themselves and making everything worse in the process of trying to protect what they currently have.
I didn't know him. Had to google him and had a nice laugh about this sentence.

As we found out 5 or 6 years ago when the Milan clubs realised they'd made a rod for their own backs!

To think PSG and City were treated like criminals by UEFA, rival clubs, media and rival club fans for daring investing money.

FFP has not even been scrapped yet but you can see no one is peeping words about that ever so great system being relaxed or terminated. All those self righteous people don't seem to cry over this fabulous system all of a sudden.
