Erling Haaland

Totally agree with this.

The kid’s a natural goalscorer and will probably be the highest scorer in Europe over the next 10 years.

But I don’t think he’s suited to the way we play at all. We need someone who’s really good in tight spaces against deep and packed defences.

Ideally someone who’s comfortable dropping deep, or playing wide as and when needed. Mbappe or Felix seem a much more natural fit to me.

Pep is the best at devising a plan to get the best out of the players. There is a video in which Pep talks about the differences between the strikers he had at Barca and Bayern. When he went to Bayern he knew he didn't have the players like Xavi, Iniesta and Messi who can play down the middle. So with Lewandowski and Muller he had to put more crosses into the box for them.

I'm not saying Haaland would come or not, but if it's Haaland, Kane or Lukaku, Pep would know what their strengths are and how to play to it. So for example Haaland likes the ball into space. So he might come up with some plan to stretch the opposition. Against West Brom (a team under Fat Sam you'd associate a low block) Cancelo was a deep lying playmaker playing quickly up top. I could also see in the final 3rd Haaland overloads the wing and makes runs inside for someone to play though balls. I mean I've seen Aguero on the left do this at times as well. Pep's mind doesn't stop and no one knows what he's thinking. That's why sometimes the FB's are inverted and the next game they are out wide. I just wouldn't doubt one of the best coaches in the world to not figure something out with the players he has.

I don't get the argument that Lewandowski wasn't a Pep type player. Some of his link up play under Klopp at Dortmund was mesmeric. He was more than adequately skilled enough in the "Pep attributes" to fit in seamlessly as long as he was continuing to bang them in. Similar to De Bruyne, Aguero, and Dias at City. Haaland would only have to fit in enough not to be a complete fish out of water and then his goalscoring ability will carry him through.

I do think that the concerns of Haaland aren't without merit. But you'd have to assume that if the club seriously are in for him then these things would have already been considered and declared nothing to worry about.

I have Zlatan vibes about this.
It's worth noting Ibrahimovic was also perfectly suited to playing in a Pep team. More so than most. He was just unfortunate to be playing in the same position as the one Messi moved to that season, and then there was a massive clash of personalities that made things worse.

Unless you're referring to the personality aspect, which seems speculative.

This fucking channel at it again. I’m reminded of when Haaland said he would move to a club not because of a coach or money, but because the club as a whole wanted him. This doesn’t help — and the title is pure click-bait, if you watch it they fall more in the side of pros than cons. Can’t see a Madrid, Chelsea or United popular fan channel doing a video with a title like this.

I'm not convinced this video would have any impact on Haaland's potential move to City at all.

Obviously the video won't have any impact on Haaland's decision and it's not a plea to not sign him, more so a response to the points people make against sign him?

Aren't people allowed to have different opinion? Not everyone are getting hard over Haaland and thats their opinion.

Barca were no where near as good with Zlatan in the team. They were lot less fluid for example.

It just wasnt personality issues.

I was complaining about the click-bait aspect. If you watch the vídeo you will see it’s not really making the point in the title

This transfer summer will be different as the only players I can see who’ll be recruited will be players for the first 11 whereas previous summers we’ve being buyer a lot of player for the squad / for the future...

I honestly believe Haaland will be a city player this summer, it’ll cost €100m and the will be done early on As;

- Chris wheeler exclusive on a €100m release clause makes sense and detail that it has to be paid in one lump sum adds weight:
- It’s also backed up by reports that city are not contacting other players agents as Haaland is our only target which leads us to believe we can make this deal happen
- City are losing in Aguero the talisman of the club, an exceptional player and global face of the club (with kdb in recent seasons). To move forward and off the pitch to compete we need a talisman of equal value and exposure
- Haaland brings a fear factor to the opposition and genuinely gives a kick off life to our dressing room. I think his edge will actually be seen as a pro assuming conversations between pep & him go well

Real Madrid are obviously major competition for his signature but everything just feels lined up for us on this one.

I can understand those who are being cautious pointing out the risks but there isnt another player in world football today (mbappe maybe but we won’t get him) who compares to Haaland so it’s a no brainer.

On other fronts I can understand why the club is seriously looking at Jack Grealish as he’s a fantastic player but I just don’t see where he fits into our side and this one may depend upon players leaving, maybe the club knows Mahrez will have offers (or want to put pressure on him to extend) or maybe Gundo dropped deeper next year? I however don’t see this deal happening.

If Messi want to leave Barcelona we will put in front of him a offer he can’t refuse, I think it’s looking increasingly likely he will stay but this is a wait and see. This may fill a lot of footy news back pages and endless speculation but it won’t divert attention at the club as the deals there just waiting on Messi.

I don’t see Sergio contract being extended, Ferandinho maybe offered a one year extension as Romeo Lavia is an truly astounding talent (similar prospect to foden) and lesser so Cole Palmer so I can see the club extending Ferns contract 12 months to see how they develop.

I simply don’t believe city will recruit two strikers, assuming that is that Jesus isn’t going anywhere as he’s a great second striker and for a team which plays with 1 striker we don’t need a third striker . Danny Ings story I really don’t buy as it strikes me this is his agent trying to strengthen his position in contract negotiations with Southampton.

Left back position will be filled if they can move Mendy onto another club I just don’t see many buyers and with Zinchenko development this year I think strengthening this position maybe left a year

There willbe a lot of stories written between now and the start of the transfer season on us as we’re now one of the biggest clubs in the world and Jornos have to fill papers, but fundamentally I don’t see our position changing which is we’re looking at 3 players seriously and that’s it. If the position changes the club will come out and officially deny we were ever in for these players, otherwise they’re still the players we’re chasing.

The busiest part of the summer I think will be in tying down existing first eleven players to longer contracts, as our greatest strength is the existing players we already have at the club.

So you think we’re only signing one striker and that’s it?
The Grealish deal looks very likely to me. He seems like he would love to come, I see a lot of admiration from Pep and influential players, the homegrown factor, the age of key players who are injury prone and the fact he’s likely to go somewhere now, so even if we bring him in this season and he’s not featured a lot, in the one after that he would be major, and a player like that you don’t find easily. Also, apparently he wouldn’t cost too much given the clause we found out about. And he can play in different positions

According to Fabreeze Romano, the chancer of obvious.

'Rumours about Erling Haaland’s future are chasing each other. From the Premier League to the La Liga, the deal will certainly not be easy and to date there is no favourite club: the striker is still linked to Borussia Dortmund, the release clause will only be valid from 2022 and not this summer. That’s why the situation remains calm at the moment, with all the top clubs interested but Borussia fighting to stay in the Champions League: this will be the real key to Haaland’s transfer.

In England there is the interest of Chelsea, there is no problem linked to the relationship between Thomas Tuchel and Borussia Dortmund; the real problem is the cost of the player, with Manchester City, Manchester United but also Real Madrid and Barcelona very interested.

There is no offer from Bayern Munich for summer 2021, as Juventus are very cautious on this front.

Mino Raiola does not like to decide the destination of his players in advance, so any negotiations for Haaland will not start before May.'

Haaland would be a replacement for Aguero, Jesus would be the second striker with Delap being developed into the first team setup, I honestly don’t see any space or need for another striker.

Danny Ings in my opinion just isn’t good enough and with his contract negotiations ongoing it just feels like a manoeuvre by his agent. I feel the other players we’ve been linked to are probably players that exist on a list that we‘re interested in but as it stands it sppears Haaland has been identified as the player we want off that list and the only player we are negotiating for.

Jack Grealish is a phenomenal player and I love to see him at city but for me with Gundo, KDB, Foden, Sterling playing in the positions where he’d naturally fit I don’t see a place or need for him. There was a rumoured release clause of £45m (which villa denied) in his 2018 contract but that was massively increased when he signed the new 5 year contract last year. If he’d cost £100m which I believe is the figure villa want then I don’t see us moving for him.

Arguably left back not attacking midfield is a much weaker position for us, Nuno Mendes seems a superb young player who fit right into our system, I think he’d be available at something around €45m plus Pedro Perro which is well within our means but with Mandy still in our team I just don’t see this happening.

COVID will have hit our finance heavily this year (as it has everyone) and extending contract this summer we’ll probably have to increase salaries by millions, replacing Aguero will be the priority (which will be very expensive as Aguero was a phenomenal player), i then think everything else may depend on player movements but given the pandemic the market will probably be generally very quiet.

On the plus side we already have an exceptional squad, we should have some money coming in from sales so there might be money for one other player (assuming there is space in the squad for them), Messi deal is self funding and our under 23 side has some exceptional talent who should be developing into first team squad players over the next 18 months.

Things are looking great for us and if we only got Haaland this summer it’d still be a great summer for us as we have a really strong squad and only really need players who will be first team starters and there not a lot of players in the market who’d improve on what we’ve got.

There are reports that his new contract has a release clause of 60M for UCL qualified teams (hence why there are talks of us and United being interested in him). That is very much doable. And blocking him from going to United would mean a lot too

Wasn’t the price quoted to United last summer £80m?

Assuming there is a release clause of £60m then over 5 years that’s £12.5m a year and £7,8m a year in salary ( assuming we increase his salary from 120 to 150 a week) so effectively £20m a year.

I agree we could afford that and for a English player of his quality seems fairly reasonable, he is obviously one of our target though I still question whether we need him and where he’d fit into our team as we are already increadibly strong in attacking midfielders.

I do worry that to accommodate another attacking midfielder we’d drop Gundo deeper which given how spectacular he’s been this year would be a loss! That said Gundo is 30 and we’d have his replacement already in the side which fits our recruitment policy

Kev is 30 this year too, Grealish ticks all the boxes needed to be on our shortlist, imo.

There are rumours from the Villa end that City are trying to close a deal during this international break for Grealish. Would SORT OF make sense in that when we have a big spend we tend to split it between financial years, so I'd expect if we're doing Grealish/Haaland, for one of them to come before the end of June.
