Erling Haaland

Based on what Pep said yesterday? I think City are playing hardball. We'd be crazy to let him go to a rival.

Just check the bookies' odds on this if you don't believe me

What a lot of people seem to be missing is that he's literally 20 and even if he cost 120m in the summer, his value will grow over time. It's not ridiculous to think that in 4-5 years time we'd be talking 200-300m for him.

Not interested in Kane, Lukaku - not only are they way worse than Haaland and Mbappe, they'd cost almost as much despite being so much older and having nowhere near the same resale value

I’m not sure how anyone can argue that Kane is ‘much worse’ than Haaland.

Surely Kane’s goal scoring longevity stands for something and he’s developed his game to become a much better all round footballer. They guy is leading the PL in both goals and assists.

IMO there seems to be an obsession with ‘youth’ and the ‘long-term’ project and it very rarely plays out like people suggest.

Wasn’t Balotelli supposed to be our striker for the next decade? What about Mangala sorting out our long-term CB issues?

Harry Kane is about as cast iron guarantee as you can get for scoring PL goals. Not only does he have the proven track record, he’s approaching his peak, hungry to win titles and has the all time PL goal scoring record in his sights.

Back onto your comment about having a player worth a potential £300 million in the future, when does that ever happen?

The reality is that whenever a superstar wants out they will simply run their contract down. Look at Sane or Mbappe, two of the best young players in the world who will end up/ have left for nowhere near their value due to the them approaching the end of their contract.

It’s nothing to do with his quality compared with those players. It’s about wasting money on lesser players.
Everytime we bought the 2nd level players it’s been a waste.
You’re better off not buying anyone.
The list is endless:
Rodwell
Sinclair
Jovetic
Navas
Nolito
Fernando
Garcia
...

Rodwell and sinclair yeah.

Nolito we will never know as he left for personal reasons after a year
Jovetic was blighted by injury
Navas and Fernado probably gave back their fee over the yeqrs but were not 1st teamers
Javi Garcia though having a bad first season played a lot of games in the 13-14 title seas9n and was much improved before being sold on.

It is easy to dismiss players that stayed a year or two as failures, but then it isn't as simple as that, none were 1st teamers but the back up.

Of we buy a stop gap striker it will need to be

Already used to the Prem
15-20 goals a season capable
Injury free.

For those last 2 reasons I wouldn't sign Ings, but I would say if we did he would be a hinderance to our team, he has goals in him, just not Sergio numbers

Is it me or the "we cannot afford it" comment is really tongue in cheek from Pep to keep the media away

Quoting the above but could have been any other.

The challenge we have is that we are not stupid, whereas other clubs are. There's a good chance IMO that another club will get suckered in to paying silly money, and I've said all along that I just don't see us doing that. As others have said, anything like £150m in the current financial climate is madness, but it doesn't mean the likes of Real (who can I'll afford it) or PSG won't think fuck it and pay it - or close to -

All Pep is saying is that we will not embark into a bidding war at the prices his agent is currently agitating for.
I don’t see anyone else with the possible exception of RM being able to stump up that sort of money unless PSG offload Mbappe to RM.
We will only get involved if the price is right. That’s the way our executive does it.
If Haaland stays another year at Dortmund and triggers his release clause everything will change and I think we’ll be in a good position to sign him at a much lower price.
If the club thinks bringing Ings in as a stopgap/backup player then I trust their judgment. He’s a good player.
If Haaland stays another year and triggers his release clause we will be in a similar situation next year but it will be all about wages. Nearly all the top clubs would be willing to pay the release fee so it would come down to who will stump up the most wages. I don't think that would be us, just like I don't think we will stump up north of a 100 million this year. I don't see us getting him, hope I'm wrong but the way the club works I think it's a no go, but I trust those in charge to make the right decisions.

It's not necessarily that. He's been 17 most of the season (very few if any players at that age play regularly for top sides), Pep values seniority and Delap has an aggressive to his game that probably deters Pep from using him more. The quality is there, Foden barely got a look in and then started plenty of games in the following year. We've always been very careful with how we introduce young players.

I don't think I agree, Foden had a season in the middle where he mostly made sub appearances and started three or four PL games. Delap's not had that yet.

You actually think we’ll buy/spunk the budget on any of them? Give over, Paul, fecking thuram? Just throwing names into the melting pot now, you should give the recruiters a little more credit ffs
Let’s wait and see and if I’m wrong then feel free to take the piss then mate .

Can I just ask - because I have never understood this - who gets to decide where a player goes?

Suppose buying club A offers £200m for a player and wages if £200k a week. And club B offers £100m and £400k.

Player says I am off to club B for my £400k deal. Selling club says fuck off we're not tossing £100m down the pan, you're off to club A.

Club C arrives on the scene and offers £150m plus £300k. And an extra £10m for player's agent, who immediately says he's going to club C.

Who wins? Where does he end up going?

BTW, Assuming the player is under contract to selling club.
Whoever can decipher Tolmie's video at the time.

They've already failed it on the last 3 accounts (losses of 80m) and Laporta is talking about 350m losses this year. So unless UEFA have the balls to ban them for a decade there isn't really a proportional punishment. It's not FFPR Barca need to worry about, it's administration.
So why are they not getting a ban then?

How is nobody mentioning this in the press?

I hope they go bust but they won't as in the end this vote the president in by the people for the people will come to an end and they will be flogged off to some rich as fuck group rather than go under.

The reason why all our dreams of manure going bust would never happen for the same reason, they would be sold and refinanced.

Wankers all.

That is true, but in fairness to the 17 year old Delap, a fully fit Sergio Aguero is currently struggling to get into this team.
Surely our problem is that our specialist forwards are not scoring pro rata to chances they get. Pep decides a false 9 because of this.
We just want a specialist forward to hit the target with the many chances he will get from the team play. Pep can then choose different formations at any time.
Not saying Delap just a goalscorer please.

He’s going this year mate . Dortmund will want as much as they can get . Think he will end up over at the scum tbh .

Let's just try and sign him ? We can argue if he is any good or how much he cost once he is a city player !

Obviously we'd be interested and i'd love this kid at City but with the figures being mentioned, i just can't see us going all out for him.
It goes against everything we've done in the transfer market thus far.

I think Utd will sign him. They'll pay whatever it takes and they have the green light now.

accounts get looked at over a 3 years period and I thing you can’t loses more than 30m in those 3 Years. Since Covid though they added an extra year so if that four year period started last year it be another 3 years before all accounts are looked at

If Dortmund had and sense they would take the decent fee we offer for Haaland and ask for Delap in return. We get a buy back option when he develops into a first team player.

Dortmund already screwed us out of a Sancho fee. Sneaky bastards tap up our young talent when they see the route to our first time is limited and then sell them back to us for triple the amount. Can’t stand the I’m holy than you act from these turds....scum.
