What I find completely bizarre is that by the sounds of it none of the managers knew anything about it. Arteta getting an apology from his chairman today.

It appears the quotes are correct, when asked directly if it was City he said "They were never interested".

City's PR team need to be working to get this all over the back pages.
They could start by explaining why if we were never interested, we still joined.

There’s no way to spin this.

They never missed an opportunity to fuck us over anyway, but because of what we have done to them, they will have less power to fuck us over than they previously had.
Unless they come up with a variation of the super league based on a number of founding members again and exclude us from the party

Cant see how they could though.

I have a feeling that UEFA, are now very cosy with us and we will nail our colours to their mast.

I think we're missing a really big story (or at least part of the story) here, and that's why they suddenly tried to launch this now.

Super League plans have been formulating for 15 years, yes, but this was not a well though out attempt. I've said in a comment before how they could have done it much better quite easily, and at the very least they should have brought on some PR agency to draw up plans, handle the outcry, present the structure in a meaningful way.

This was a seriously last minute thing, 2 English clubs were invited the day before the launch FFS and PSG and Bayern weren't even tied down.

And the other thing is....August! They wanted this to start in August. That's insane. Look at the CL reforms...approved in 2021 for a 2024 change. And that's an existing competition without a legal minefield to get through.

It's not just rushed, it's bloody desperate. They knew if it failed they'd be stuck in UEFA for a decade at least and they still tried this embarrassingly amateur attempt.

I don't know what it was, but something made Perez and Agnelli jump and try to rush through a plan that should have been 6 months or a year in the making in 1 weekend.

I suspect the finances at Real, Juventus and Barcelona are much, much worse than people are predicting, and that this whole thing was precipitated by Joan Laporta realising after a month in charge at Barcelona that the club is bankrupt and reaching out to Perez.

yep it’s money they need that injection of 300m+ now! Looks what said about Haaland and Mbappe they can’t afford them with no super league..

Tebas sticking the knife into City and PSG again..
“State owned clubs like Manchester City and PSG, these clubs need to face some controls, they haven’t done anything outrageous so far, but we will see”
Sky explaining this “he’s talking of course the fact they are owned by states, in that UAE have a stake in Manchester City and Qatar has a stake in PSG”
Unfuckingbelievable.

For them to be this desperate I think it runs deeper than losing out on the latest hyped up galactico signings.

I wonder just how much trouble they are in for a decades worth of scheming and planning to go under in 48h because you needed it to happen in 3 months time.

Yep, very good point. It WAS launched unseemingly rapidly.

We nearly went out of business and nobody seemed to care, I hope this lot just fold, they deserve everything that's coming to them.

I wont be happy until they are at the hiding behind the couch whilst sending the kid to the door to tell the clubman that Mam isn't in.

You'd have thought/hoped our guys in charge would have realised how desperate it was and not to have agreed to it with a days notice. We can't have been that worried surely, as you say there was fck all real planning gone into it.

The August thing hasn't been spoken about much, but it's mind-blowing. If you think about all the prep that goes into even a typical league game against United they have to consult with the tram network, GMP, security in town, and they have to very carefully prep so many things around it. All teams have longstanding travel partners. These guys were apparently going to chuck in a load of extra derbies, without even having a finalised format, in a year where there hasn't been a crowd for 18 months, with games kicking off in August?! I know Madrid are broke, but things must be really, really bad if they need this cash injection *this* summer.

This is absolutely a huge story. All the evidence points to this exact scenario. Great post.

Surely when they said ‘an August start’, it meant August 2022 or 2023? I can’t see that it would ever have started in August this year!
