Paris Saint-Germain (A) - CL SF | Post-Match Thread

Really would have been well deserved if Foden had scored after that great run near the end....hopefully next time.
Yeah, the only thing missing tonight was a goal from him and he was quiet for long periods. Surprised he wasn’t hooked when they went down to 10 men, being replaced by either sterling or Jesus.

Doing Cancelo a disservice there, he was good again tonight the booking apart. Pep clearly wanted us to play with a bit of defensive restraint tonight, PSG going ahead changed it.

Sorry, I don't like criticising players after a big win, but he wasn't good tonight apart from the booking. He got done in our box a few times, he was lunging into tackles on a yellow and almost asking Brych to send him off, and he gave the ball away constantly, not just under pressure but when he had time and space. Oh and he was overhitting every pass to Mahrez by 20 yards.

He had one good spell when Zinchenko was warming up and Pep clearly told him to go hard for the last 5 minutes he was on the pitch, and he was much better playing as basically a LW, but Zinchenko is the #1 left back and it shouldn't really be a debate now.

Cancelo's inability to pass with his left foot takes Foden out of the game completely unfortunately, he just can't play balls down the touchline into Phil, and he's just so much slower at moving the ball.

He's an excellent attacking RB and when we're already going to dominate a game he's a good LB option, but not at this level.

Don't necessarily disagree but Cancelo did very little wrong tonight and made a couple of big challenges when already on a yellow.

I'm a huge fan of little Kev but IMHO Cancelo has been best for us when he's played that left back position and the team has looked very balanced whenever he has played there.
Cancelo was poor. So many mistakes and if were honest he had a purple patch for 6 weeks and has reverted to type. I'm not out on him yet though.

PSG will have been destroyed psychologically by that second half.
A third goal would have been nice but may have made us complacent for the second leg.
2-1 keeps us on our toes.
Great result
Great performance

Very disappointed that we didn't try and score more goals given the man advantage. Zinchenko for Cancelo made the difference.
Easily forgotten tonight. Zin was an absolute monster . It was noted earlier that he does the basics so very well and it stood out tonight. I love Cancelo but Zin definitely turned it tonight.

As far as CL refs go thought he had a decent night. Can’t expect much more from them in these games
The ref was bang on ihmo wanted to post before the game the only concern for me was Mbarm we kept him out of the game neymar is fucking useless cheating bastard but hands up di Maria was really good marez was mom for us in my opinion a great result & performance on a side note cancelo will never nick oleks l/b position.

They know they were schooled in the second half, that was like us against Barca or Bayern a few years ago. Same again next week, they will be full of intent for half an hour then they fade against our relentless passing and movement. No way they beat us by 2 goals

The PSG wall for the winner summed them up. Weak and disorganised. If we can manage a sustained period of high intensity in the return I really think we could prevail. Brilliant character from the boys.

'World-class performance'

Paris St-Germain 1-2 Manchester City
Owen Hargreaves on BT Sport: "A brilliant second-half performance. Fantastic. World-class performance. PSG were chasing shadows. Two away goals is the perfect result.
"Good game management, good on set-pieces. City are good when they can get high up the pitch. PSG looked like they ran out of steam."

Wonderful 2nd half from the boys. Still work to do next week but at least we are now in the driving seat.

First half we looked out of our depth. Second half probably the best 45 minutes of football I've seen.

its what i call (believe) we started to show we belong on this level in the 2nd half. its a great feeling when city control the tempo and move the ball around with meaning. but like i said earlier lets not over hype it ? good win but its only half time

Hopefully, there's no delayed effects on Ilkay. He seemed okay in the remainder of the game.
Yeah I’d imagine (hope) professional physios know better than me but I’m hoping he wasn’t playing on an injury through adrenaline or something. Fingers crossed
