Really? Only Mount and Thiago and Chilwell really missing
Don't think any of those would have made a difference to Chavs overall performance yesterday
Yes- Mount's their best player. He's their Foden right now. Stop underestimating Chelsea and saying all we've got to do is turn up with our first XI in the final. It's going to be a hell of a difficult game.

He does not think he’s bigger than the club, he tries to do his best for the club. He’s paid to make decisions and he’s not made many wrong ones so far.
Would you have made that team selection for that game?
Very interested in your reply

The key point, for people still missing it, is that rotation isn't just about injuries and fitness, though it is that. It's about managing the squad, keeping the whole dressing room happy, and keeping every played match day fit.

Pep apologised to players, players like Cancelo and Rodri and Sterling, who have been crucial to our season but didn't get picked against PSG, what every player understood as our biggest game so far. He repaid that by telling them to go out and win the league yesterday. It's all well good only playing our first 11, but what happened when Sterling comes in for the final and hasn't played for 3 months or the management team have no recorded data on him?

My only worry from yesterday is that we have a lot of players whose confidence is down, and while we getting rid of some in the summer, many of those will not be going anywhere and will need that confidence rebuilding if we want trophies next year.

I rarely post on here, prefer to just have a gander ar what's going on in the minds of fellow Blues.

"Fuck Aguero, fuck Pep, fuck Mendy...."
No. Fuck you lot, you bunch of entitled twats. An experiment didn't achieve the desired result. A club legend made a rare error. And a referee from Wythenshawe denied us a penalty.
The league title could still be won today. The CL final team, injuries permitting, will be easily good enough to beat Chelsea.
Stop bleating like 4-year old brats. City lost a match to the 2nd best team in the league. Big deal.
This. Many need to sit down, put the toys back in the cot & calmly analyse both games, realise we’ve been pursuing 4 competitions and understand the ‘best 11’ can’t play every match. We were close yesterday with a 1 man midfield, against the best team ever, who were missing their three best worldies ever in Mount, Jorginho & Silva. (Who also played against West Brom). Perspective needed.

This is the first post i've read on the thread but i concur with your sentiments.

Personally I would have gone stronger to get it won. To be fair to him that team should have got a draw at the very least and possibly the win. But that’s why Pep is manager and I am not. That’s why Pep has won 14 out of 15 finals. He knows how to prepare. If this means he thought playing a weakened side yesterday was the right to do strategically who are we to question him after what he has already delivered.

I think there’s a middle ground in between playing your best team in every game and totally changing the starting eleven, which should take into account the importance of the game and the level of the opposition. Nobody would suggest that the same team should start every game and there are certain games (eg Fulham, Crystal Palace) where we can get away with a total revamp. We can swap Laporte for Stones or Dias, Fernandinho for Rodri, Sterling for Mahrez, even Jesus for KDB or Bernardo, without seriously weakening the team, because the team retains sufficient creativity and defensive strength. The problems arise when the likes of Mendy, Ake, Torres and Aguero also come into the side at the same time as the other changes because the drop off in quality is just too great against the likes of Chelsea. These two wins will have given them extra belief, probably the confidence that comes from winning a trophy, and the opportunity to rest players when their Champs League place is assured, making them a more dangerous opponent than they would otherwise have been. All hinges on whether we win that game now, so all views about Pep’s rotation are moot until then really.

Walker, Stones, zinchenko, Fernandinho, gundogan, bernardo, mahrez, de bruyne, foden.....

Does anybody think any of these will get a game in the final or will Pep stick to his first team? Is there any point in city showing up for the final or should we just send a letter to uefa conceding to chelski? While we're at it we may as well concede the league to the rags as well because it's clear that we've blown that as well.... Sack Pep too, he's been a complete failure since he arrived and aguero's 258 goals have been very, very lucky....

Some absolute wallopers on here.

I would have played a team to get Sterling firing. Playing such a XI almost certainly leads to defeat, and that is never a good thing. I know it was very close in the end but I'd still have used the game to rehabilitate Sterling. That would have been the most valuable outcome from the game.

I though do not know how far into the red some City players were. CFC lost Christensen. What if we had lost Foden or Walker?

I am surprised there hasn't been speculation about KDB.

I have another worry, namely that, influenced by two defeats, Pep will be tempted to mess with selection and tactics for the final. We must play our own game,

Looking at that City team selection and the relatively strong Chelsea line-up with only Mount, Chilwell, Havertz (who scored twice vs Real Madrid) and that Silva bloke missing, I was expecting a much heavier defeat. Keeping them to 1-1 with only a minute remaining was quite an achievement. Hopefully we will have enough to collect points at Newcastle & Brighton with a handsome victory against Everton after.

I, ll dance a jig with you when we win the final then.
Oh and let's hope Villa win us the league today as well.
14 out of 15 finals is immense.
Personally I'd like us to win the league ourselves, and yesterday was a golden opportunity.

Largely agree apart from your last setence. Losing is a big deal. Always. I'd never hammer Aguero or Pep though, but I do think he could have played a changed side and given us a chance.

We played a better game than we had a right to expect. CFC are hard to beat but they are miles off having a side that can challenge for the title.

Agree entirely, except that Sergio's penalties, at least in the last couple of years, are definitely hit and miss, mainly miss!
Pep should sort this out.
Reminder to Alty and VAR: tackling from behind was outlawed some years ago.

Don’t agree with making so many changes for a game where we could have won the title. We’ll still win it, but after 2 consecutive wins over us under their new coach it’s bound to give Chelsea a boost for the final. Pep partially vindicated when you look at the injury to Christensen, doubt he’ll be ready for the final.

At 1-1 Pep went for it. Didn't come off, and losing to a last minute goal is always a killer.
I missed most of the match due to a sick dog but i saw enough to know we were unlucky and the referee's a wanker.
Agreed. I predict that Chelsea have used all their luck now & we’re going to smash the cocky rags

Despite nine changes Chelski were not that much better than ourselves and that has to be a plus for the final , we have at least eight players to come in and improve our team , Chelski probably left three of their better plays out of their side.
If we score our penalty the game was over , if the bent ref had given Sterling a penalty we get a draw , these fine margins will be the deciding factor in the final , we regularly get screwed over by officials in the Champs league and we miss 50% of our penalties , these are the only two reasons Chelski have any chance, because man for man we are far better.
We need to play our own game and not match up to their tactics formation with three at the back , why Pep keeps on changing our tactics to suit the opposition is bafflling , we are the best team in europe let Tuchel worry about us.

Don’t get the Serg hate here tbh. Mainly because of all the things he’s done for us and secondly because he does miss quite a lot of penalties.
Think it’s pure frustration just. Emotions run high after things like this. He does miss a lot an awful lot which begs the question Sergio why did you actually try that?!
