I think Fergal Walsh from the BBC wins the award for the most stupid question of the briefing.

How likley is it that the unlocking of the 21st of June will go ahead Prime Minister?
Pretty much guaranteed i would think, given that every one over 45 who wants a jab would be double vaccinated by then by the acceleration to an 8 week schedule.
The Indian.2 strain giving high numbers of cases will encourage younger waverers to get vaccinated as well.

Hospital data continues to be OK news.

England patients fall again by 27 - it was down just 3 last Friday.

North West falls again just by 1. But it has not gone up now in any day this week despite Bolton and several other regional towns with the variant.

Admissions today up to 93 - but down from 96 seven days before.

There continues no evidence that this rise in cases is going to storm the NHS - presumably given its younger age profile. As Roubiex said earlier if we can hold the fort whilst speeding up vaccinations in next month down through the ages we might still get to mid June without a major concern.

And that age targeted media campaign I have been calling for in here is urgent as we need to persuade as many of those who are reluctant as possible.

Tell them they hold the key to going back to normal. Because they do. It is not a given it will happen. But the best chance it will is if those currently reluctant to be vaccinated due to age or religion or belief it has microchip inside or some such can be persuaded to a degree to change their minds. We will never persuade everyone. And we may have to impose restrictions on those who say no for a while. But we should try a carrot not a stick at this stage as I think it is the key to getting out of this in June as we all wnt to see.

I didn't watch the briefing, are easing of restrictions still happening on Monday or have they been halted?

Good news that.
if it continues the link between cases and hospitalisations and deaths will have shown to be broken by vaccination.

No change unless you like in Jockland.
Only changes in England are:
- Speeding up of 2nd jab to an 8 week cycle rather than 12. By my rough calculation that would mean everyone over 45 would be double jabbed by 21 June.
- More surge testing and increased first jabs surrounding the areas of concern.
Jockland has delayed lifting of restrictions in 2 areas for a week.

Incidently the case increases in the Indian.2 variant in UK hotspots show it to be more infectious relatice to the Kent varriant by about an R number of about 0.3
That pushes the Covid R number up to 0.38 pushing the base herd immunity level up to 1 - (1/3.5) = 73.7% rather than 71.4% for the Kent variant.

A rolling 7 day vaccination rate higher than the UK by 0.1 per 100 people per day does not get Germany close to the UKs total vaccination numbers (per capita) in 5 weeks or 35 days.
Come on now do the maths.
I'll be kind and say you missed the UK vacination numbers gradually accelerating over the last 2 weeks.

You said to *current* levels...

Anyway, I think we've done that to death now.

I guess in some ways this rapid spread through the sections of the community impacted most by this infectious variant MIGHT turn out to be a good thing if it does its bit to create a degree of immunity in the communities less likely to be vaccinated.

Vaccinations plus people catching it combined is really the only way humans will get some kind of long term resistance to this thing - if indeed long term resistance is achievable.

Disappointed with the response.

I'm baffled as to how the best use of vaccines is for people who are largely immune to become even more immune when the people most likely to transmit it aren't immune at all.

21st June will be pushed back..I'm putting money on it
If people think they’re going to be 5 deep at a bar in a nightclub, jumping round with their mates on a dance floor without masks on on June 21st they’re nuts

i have a feeling the goverment are using the people that have had the vaccine as test dummies knowing the spread of this indian covid variant is happening ? boris has said no fears in its beating the vaccines. but the spread and how it spreads quckily is unknown and the warning bells in bolton and scotland are only small ??

the virus is airborne and can live longer than the others and the truth is nobody know how far in the air it can travel
also the people in the bolton are going to other towns for work and meetting other people and family

i said yesterday a 3rd wave is happening right now ? the goverment know about it and want to use the vaccine and the people as a test because its still unkown if it can work in keep the numbers down

they probably won’t know all they need to about the vaccine until it’s trial ends in 2023 and gets FDA approved
