Why not get rid of all internationals within the season and play the qualifying competition for the Euro's and World Cup at the end of each season in a mini tournament eg.-
End of Season 1 - World Cup qualifying competion
End of Season 2 - World Cup
End of Season 3 - European Championships qualifying competition
End of Season 4 - European Championships
