Champions League Final | Post-Match Thread

Not sure I’ll ever really get my head around why he decided to change the system tonight. I love Pep, but that was an unfathomable team selection.
This is how we all feel Ric. I’m trying to convince myself its only game but I can’t help feeling angry that he let everyone down.

Pep tries to be too clever, he made a mistake again tonight. Not that arsed though for some reason. Had already processed it when line up announced.

Because performance is a better measure than results in a low scoring sport. 538 strip out luck. Steam was prompted to the PL today using the same principles
It's absolute bollocks. They've got Brighton ahead of Leicester ffs. If the 16th placed team are ahead of a 5th place team who won a trophy this season, then your methodology is flawed.

It’s interesting how they’ve beat us three times in six weeks all playing the same way and our worst performance against them came with our so called “best 11”.

I don't know anyone who thinks that's our best 11, Fern is in our best 11 even at his age.
To not play a defensive midfielder in the biggest game of the season was shocking, Gundo has been ourstanding this season, but he aint no defensive midfielder.

It's not true. He played well first half. Tell me what FFS did?
What did Mr Sterling do prior to this game/during this game that really gives you an hard on from the "centurians season".
No tell me cos i want to know?????
Reece James was on a free lie after 5 mins of the game.
Just like Wan bissacka they have nothing to fear from the "winger that is Raheem"

Good team but not better than Manchester City. WE were the orchestrators of our own downfall tonight. Chelsea had little influence besides their goal.
Difficult to know. They have a system that works well against us. I don’t know but I think it may have worked had Pep not introduced a different formation which I do feel may have backfired. We will never know.

I asked you a question, do you think Pep should be fired for this?

Follow up; who would you bring in that would deliver even half of what Pep has?

We lost to one shot and resolute defending from the opposition. We looked poor all round and didn't deserve to win based on performance, but it was our first time in the CL final and we'll be back. Sorry if that's too nuanced for you.

You need to look up the word nuanced mate you are using it wrong. What does even half of what Pep has achieved actually mean?

There have been many games that I have watched gundog and wondered what he brings to the team. Then, you see his stats and realise the impact he has.
He is one of those strange players that goes largely unNoticed, but is a vital cog in the machine.
A vital cog that can't assist, can't break counters. Sure lots of sideways passes. Great stats though. When all you have to do is make 5 yard passes

'Hopefully we will be here again'

Manchester City
Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola to BT Sport: "It has been an exceptional season for us. It was a tight game. We had chances. We were brilliant in the second half, we were brave and we could not convert the chances as they were so strong. The players were exceptional. We come back maybe one day again!
"I did what I thought was the best decision [on his team selection].
"[Kevin de Bruyne] got injured but that happens in this competition and in these games. We needed everyone.
"The ambition now is to rest but then prepare for the next season. It was the first time we were at this stage. Hopefully we will be here again in the future."
And if we do make it back Pep, every City fan will be fully expecting some more crazy sh't. This will go down as a game lost by Pep.

Spot on. I’d like to think Guardiola will hold his hands up and admit that he has let everyone at the club down tonight. It’s a shame because he has done so well with managing the team. Perhaps that was the problem, he doesn’t know what his best team is In the big games. Wish he’d consult with the fans because we certainly know what the best team is.

I know its just a game of football but still this will take a while to get over. I feel sick to my stomach. We may never get to a final again.
Yes, because he's not used to playing big games is he? Jeeeze, get a grip.

You're not wrong. Would I have picked Sterling? No. Not a chance. When he did play was he better than our other 5 attackers? Yes. This is all on Peps selection though, not Sterling.
