Champions League Final | Post-Match Thread

We gave Chelsea a massive boost with two previous line ups of tinkering, don’t worry we all thought, we have a formula set in stone that they haven’t yet seen.

then we roll out a team split in two, attack and defence, nothing to gel it together, nothing to nick the ball early and get us on the front foot, nothing to protect the back four. NOTHING.

we didn’t get battered or show a lack of energy, we simply appeared to gamble on a tactic we haven’t even attempted. Personally I’m confused as to the logic of this, pep is a genius at times but I doubt there’s anyone, who would not of stuck with the proven line up, in what for the club was a huge game.
A gamble was not the order of the day.

its a great post and frustrating but unfortunately we have all seen this movie before haven’t we.

lyon . Important game so he decides to have another I am super clever moment and play 3 at the back with the green (shit) Garcia as the centre of the 3.

he is a genius but the team has been so good this season all he had to do was play our best 11 with our usual formation the players are used to.

in reality all that meant was playing fern instead of sterling at the outset as we usually do and it would have been different.

As a season it was great.

Remember PSG, Dortmund. The league games. There was much to be proud of.

We will lick our wounds and recover. I hope City don't make any stupid transfer decisions over the Summer.

It will be an interesting Summer. What direction do we take with the team? A new centre-forward, or do we embrace the 4-6-0, and enhance the 6?

If we don’t sign a top class forward in the summer then someone needs sacking.

So still a bit raw from last night and having another think about team selection
Would we have won if we played our 11 what most people predicted? Maybe maybe not but at least I could stomach the result better if we did.
I'm sat here this morning all ifs and buts
So no defensive midfielder but put our leading goal scorer there
Foden destroying full backs on the left put him in centre mid where this week pep has even said he needs to learn and grow in that position
And then sterling. Ffs where do I start. What has he done in the past month to deserve a start

Like many have said already to not play our strongest team after the PSG performance is on Pep he messed up.
We may still have lost with Fernandinho on the pitch but it would be easier to take as we would have given it our best shot from the start.
We deffo need a striker with height.
When teams park the bus its nigh impossible to pass through, having someone in there with height allows us to cross from all angles & pens a team in.
Even if the front man doesn't score a ball drops in the Box to someone else.
Chelsea will challenge next season but like Utd they have one way of playing - Counter attacking.
In a one off game it can work but over a 38 game season you need more than that to be Champions.
Just like the rags they will struggle against teams when they have to force the game & dominate possession.
When they face a team who park the bus. If We address our weaknesses - namely a front man & proper left back ,we will be back & hopefully its our night next time.

The one excuse I will give Pep is that all season City have vacillated between 4-3-3 and a false 9. Pep has been managing the game on the hoof all season.

Before this game, there were two bodies of opinion in regards to City. Do we get a specialist centre-forward and play like we used to, or do we try and revolutionise football and make a virtue out of the false 9.

There really wasn't a definite City blueprint. We all expected City to play the false 9 but it wasn't 100% certain. In the end Pep went for surprise. What I am saying is that he started with doubt because we have been changing all season. Maybe this is not a big a leap as we think.

Chelsea can' win the league playing with a counter-attacking team but they will probably add a striker. They will evolve too.

There was no player mentality exposed. Pep's mentality was exposed. THere is a coach there who for some reason feels he has something to prove to the world.

His job is to prepare the players. We are the Champions. All we had to do was play them in the way that has seen us become Champions. PSG are better than Chelsea. Why change?
Pep is at fault I am not arguing with that. The players also are at fault. Win & lose together. The set up was wrong but individually the players caved when it was not working. No one stepped up and took control. It was like they needed their hand held be told exactly what to do.

The main point I agree with. Collectively we were nullified due to pep but individually they put up no fight. Manager fucked up but the players could and should have tried to reactify his mistakes.
