Champions League Final | Post-Match Thread

I was upset last night and this morning but is there any other team in Europe who were as bad as us in a the third tier league in 1999, and have reached and champions league final? I will take runners up this year. Onwards and upwards.

I know it's all ifs, buts and maybes but I wonder how the game would have played out had pep 'over thought' a lot more and went 3-5-2 to match them man for man.

Just because people are pissed off with last night's team selection doesn't mean we want him out.
No, no, no. You miss the status of the happy-clappy God squad on here. Any slight criticism of Pep means you are a rag or a dipper. which is ironic as rags and dippers who go home and away probably see City more often than the happy-clappies.
Didn't hear many Blues at the game who were delighted with the selection and tactics.

His stubbornness really fucks me off, will never make a change at half time if it's not working because that will be an admittance that he got it wrong from the start. If we could replay the game tomorrow I think he'd pick exactly the same team again
agreed . his pride won't let him learn his lesson . Monaco, Lyon and now this. next season will be the same . i feel for the players. they know they are being fucked over. i'll be gobsmacked if Khaldoon doesn't act.

If your not allowed to be annoyed in a champions league final when are you allowed?

I feel sorry for you lot that went to the game last night and had to watch that.

I am actually more annoyed today than I was last night as the horror of what Pep's did sinks in. Remember this is supposedly the holy grail of club football and after 10 attempts to win it we needlessly threw that opportunity away.

It really was a shocking set up from Pep. Any chess players or people who have served in the Army understand the principles of depth and mutual support. Somehow last night we ended up with a straight line back 4 isolated and 30 yards from a straight line midfield 6. Passes into the 6 from the 4 were near impossible and if we did manage to get the ball to the midfield 6 then they only had a sideways pass in a congested area. There was absolutely nothing on offer in the final 3rd, and Kyle Walker go so pissed off with it he tried on several occasions to be that player in the final 3rd by breaking the lines and running there himself. It was painful to watch and how Guardiola allowed it to occur, let alone continue into the 2nd half is beyond explanation. I am almost starting to think he's doing this as a prank or he's gone insane.

If I was Khaldoon and somehow we manage to get there again in Pep's tenure, then I'd ban him attending the final because when he starts thinking he becomes dangerous.
Agree with most apart from the last sentences and para. Perhaps he wanted it so badly he worried too much about the opposition rather than our strengths. Normal human reaction when desire becomes desperation. But agree that gap between the back line and midfield, it felt like there’d been no preparation and they loved hoovering up the space. Got no problem with him changing tactics and systems - reason we’ve won shit loads - but I don’t get the resistance to changing the obvious at half time.

Chelsea players set the tone from the first minute. Their supporters didn’t stop singing for most of the game because of how pumped up their players were. We barely heard anything from the City fans all night, but I think that due to our performance. I didn’t go last night as I was unlucky not get a ticket, but our support was a bit poor last night compared to Chelsea’s.
Please fuck off. Says someone who was there and singing much of the time.

The City fans were definitely louder at the beginning.
It petered out, but I'm not surprised why.
They could see the writing on the wall and how the game was panning out. More worryingly our coach didn’t. He thought the boys would turn it around like the PSG game. The problem was Chelsea weren’t exhausted like PSG were and just kept there shape while we frantically passed the ball trying to find a way through. Chelsea could’ve put the game to bed and deservedly so but they didn’t have their finishing boots on.

We got dinked by a team just about getting in the top 4 and beaten by Leicester, not only that but they more or less played the same tactics for the 3 games when they beat us. The game was there for the taking, easy team choice ffs the one that beat PSG.

We didnt get our most dangerous players involved in the game anywhere near enough, cant give any player above a 7 out of 10. So why did we underperform ? Was it nerves as well as tactics and team choice.

Not playing fernandinho, has to be the biggest question, Next to that why does a poor form player like sterling start.

We went on a 20 plus run to dominate the league with a great set up we hadnt seen before, we hardly leaked a goal. Then on the big night played a line up i cant remember seeing.

We play some of the best football in the world, we are fkn fantastic and ever since pep came to city it has been a privilege to watch our football, all the trophies speak for themselves. Next season we will see more silverware and i would put money on another CL final.

But this season we have not raised our level at the big games, while the teams we are playing step up a gear against us.

Not sounding bitter but are chelsea the best team in Europe because they won the chumps league ? No, if ever the chumps league shows its value lastnight was a prime example

Seems like a bit of a sweeping generalisation?

There are plenty of blues in their teens and 20s who are City fans because of family / local ties, and would be irrespective of our success.
So are your comments on older people, the same people who went to every away 15 years ago when there were 1000s of empty seats in the away end at places like Everton.

It wen down to 12.5k points yesterday so didn't preclude younger fans from attending. Older fans with be end up dying and attend less aways as time goes on, it doesn't need a euthanasia policy, but higher allocations to supporters based on points which have been eroded away since the takeover in 2007.

That’s fair enough mate. But I’m only saying what I heard last night and what my mate said last night. Looks like a few on here are saying it was a bit of weird atmosphere. But it’s understandable because of the performance.

there seems to be a lot of posts about the singing, those fans there lastnight know more about it than fans like myself who watched on a screen.

I can only go off what i experience at Wembley, we have the whole end so you would think it would sound fantastic. But it ends up a let down, we have pockets of 5 or 6 songs going at the same time. Lots of stop start singing out of sync. A lot of drunken fans belting different songs out. I would say Rags in the semi final was the best ive heard us at Wembley.

Cant have been easy last might with fans spread out all over distancing. Our fan base seems to sing better when facing each other and grouped up. Hence the concourse gets going better than the terraces at lots of games.

It was the pressing more than the fact we didn’t play a dm that was the biggest issue without the ball. We left Chilwell in particular free numerous times.
